Job Summary:
We are seeking a highly motivated Tax Manager for our Houston, Texas office to support our oil and gas development project with a particular focus on exploration of Alaska’s North Slope. The ideal candidate will leverage their deep expertise in tax strategy and treasury functions to optimize the company’s financial position while ensuring compliance with applicable laws and regulations. Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, this position will contribute to the company’s mission of delivering outstanding shareholder returns through operational excellence and sustainable growth.
Key Responsibilities:
•Oversee and manage all tax-related activities for upstream oil and gas operations, including tax planning, compliance, and reporting
•Advise on strategic tax initiatives to optimize the company’s tax position while ensuring full compliance with federal, state, and local tax regulations
•Participate in tax audits and regulatory inquiries, ensuring timely and accurate responses
•Stay current of evolving tax laws and industry-specific regulations, proactively advising leadership on potential impacts
•Provide strategic insights on policies and procedures to enhance treasury controls and risk management
•Participate in and review tax filings to ensure accuracy, completeness, and adherence to all applicable tax laws
•Forecast cash flow positions, assess borrowing needs, and ensure adequate liquidity for operational and capital investment requirements
•Assist in Sarbanes-Oxley compliance and testing related to treasury functions
•Ensure compliance with legal, regulatory, and operational requirements governing cash management and treasury activities
Qualifications:
•Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; an advanced degree in Taxation or a Certified Public Accountant designation is preferred
•Minimum of 10 years of experience in tax compliance, with expertise in the upstream oil and gas industry
•Deep knowledge of federal and state laws and regulations affecting the oil and gas sector
•Proven experience managing tax audits and regulatory engagements
•Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to provide sound financial and tax-related decision-making
•Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively convey complex tax matters
•Proficiency in tax and treasury management systems, as well as financial modeling tools and techniques
•Comprehensive understanding of tax, banking, and treasury regulations, ensuring full compliance with industry standards and best practices
