About the Role
GB Connections is seeking a highly motivated
Sustaining Engineer
to join our Engineering team in Houston, TX. This critical role ensures the long-term performance, reliability, and integrity of GBC’s threaded connections. You’ll collaborate across manufacturing, quality, product development, and customer support to solve complex challenges, enhance product performance, and drive continuous improvement.
The Sustaining Engineer helps safeguard our technology through proactive engineering documentation management and directly contributes to GBC’s profitability by reducing costs and ensuring proper product application in the field.
Key Responsibilities
Product Support & Sustaining Engineering
•Provide ongoing technical support for GBC’s threaded connection products, focusing on field performance and reliability.
•Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues related to product design, field application, and manufacturing processes.
•Collaborate with internal teams to ensure dimensional and material specifications are met.
•Review and approve material test reports (MTRs) for production.
Continuous Improvement & Cost Optimization
•Identify opportunities to improve product designs for performance, manufacturability, and cost reduction.
•Partner with manufacturing teams to optimize processes and reduce production costs.
•Lead root cause investigations and corrective action development for field or production issues.
Quality & Compliance
•Ensure threaded connections comply with API, ISO, and other relevant standards.
•Analyze quality data and inspection results to detect trends and recommend corrective actions.
•Monitor product performance post-production to maintain compliance with customer specifications.
•Participate in supplier and internal audits as needed.
Field Support & Customer Interaction
•Provide technical expertise to field teams and support troubleshooting for thread damage and performance issues on-site.
•Collaborate with customers to resolve field concerns and provide technical solutions.
•Support claims processing with comprehensive cross-functional investigations.
Collaboration & Product Development
•Work closely with R&D to align new product designs with field needs and manufacturability.
•Participate in design reviews and testing to ensure product reliability and performance.
•Contribute to product launch activities and prepare supporting documentation.
Documentation & Reporting
•Maintain accurate and up-to-date engineering documentation, drawings, specifications, and manuals.
•Lead change management processes to ensure controlled updates to engineering materials.
•Prepare technical reports on product performance, failure analysis, and improvement initiatives for leadership.
What You Bring
Education
•Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, Petroleum Engineering, or a related field. Advanced degrees are a plus.
Experience
3-5 years in the OCTG industry, with direct experience in threaded connections or tubular product design.
•Experience in sustaining engineering or supporting OCTG products in challenging oil and gas environments is highly desirable.
Technical Skills
•Deep understanding of threaded connection design, materials, and mechanical performance under various conditions.
•Knowledge of API and ISO standards related to OCTG.
•Familiarity with FEA software (ANSYS or similar) and failure analysis methods.
•Proficiency in CAD tools (AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or equivalent).
•Strong Microsoft Office skills for reporting and data analysis.
