Position Summary:
The Foreman supervises and coordinates crews and subcontractors on excavation and civil construction projects. This includes managing daily site operations such as overburden removal, trenching, grading, road construction, culvert installations, and site services. The Foreman ensures work is completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with project specifications, timelines, and environmental regulations applicable in Northern Ontario.
Key Responsibilities:
•Supervise daily field operations, including equipment, personnel, and subcontractors.
•Plan and coordinate work activities and resources to meet project schedules
•Interpret and implement construction drawings, specifications, and job scopes.
•Direct site prep, excavation, road building, and utility installation
•Ensure safe work practices are followed; enforce company safety policies and OHSA regulations.
•Conducted pre-job safety meetings and completed daily field logs and hazard assessments.
•Monitor material deliveries (e.g., granulars, pipes) and ensure proper installation techniques.
•Inspect work for quality control and compliance with engineering standards.
•Communicate effectively with project managers, engineers, and clients.
•Mentor and train crew members; promote a respectful, productive work environment
•Track progress, report issues, and suggest improvements to increase efficiency.
•Manage site cleanup, environmental protection measures, and erosion control.
Qualifications:
•Strong working knowledge of excavation, grading, drainage, and road construction practices
•Familiarity with OPSS/MTO specs and environmental regulations in Ontario
•Ability to read and interpret blueprints, site plans, and grade stakes
•Competency operating or overseeing heavy equipment (excavators, dozers, loaders, etc.)
•Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills
•Valid Class G driver’s license (DZ or AZ is an asset)
•Valid certifications in First Aid, WHMIS, and Working at Heights (or willingness to obtain)
•Comfortable working in remote/northern job sites and variable weather conditions
Work Conditions:
•Outdoor work on active construction sites and office work as required.
•9–12 hour days, Monday to Friday (some weekends as needed)
•Travel and accommodations may be required for remote locations.
•Exposure to heavy equipment, noise, dust, and varying terrain
