Available Roles Vegetation and Reliability Analytics (Buffalo, NY)

Our Vegetation and Reliability Analytics team oversees the development, maintenance, and reporting related to our company's vegetation strategy and electrical reliability performance in the upstate New York region. This team is dedicated to the internal and external tracking, reporting, and forecasting of National Grid’s distribution and transmission electrical system performance, seeking to enhance the presentation of the company's trends across various filters and system components. As a Gridtern, you will help track and categorize specific types of equipment and their performance, including National Grid’s distribution, sub-transmission, and transmission systems. You will also collaborate with other reliability engineers to identify trends related to weather and electrical component failures, while partnering with the vegetation strategy team to explore potential trends associated with vegetation-related outages.

Distribution Planning and Asset Management (Buffalo, NY)

Our Distribution Planning & Asset Management team aims to strengthen the resilience of sub-transmission and distribution systems against adverse weather while modernizing the grid to meet future capacity and customer service needs. Key responsibilities include strategic planning for system enhancements, offering technical support for customer interconnections, and monitoring reliability performance. The team collaborates with various National Grid departments to integrate distributed generation and ensure regulatory compliance, while also identifying process improvements and maintaining stakeholder communication.

As a Gridtern, you will assist engineers with their daily responsibilities while also contributing your own research and analyses. This involves performing an emergency scenario analysis for selected Buffalo Stations to minimize the impact of catastrophic events on customers, as well as creating a retirement plan for legacy distribution networks that are no longer in service. Additionally, you will offer essential data support for various DPAM activities.

Distribution Design (Buffalo, NY)

Our Distribution Design team creates solutions within the power distribution system while adhering to all current standards. This team collaborates with multiple departments on projects aimed at maintaining, enhancing, expanding, and supporting the power grid. Their responsibilities include performing site visits to assist in designs and ensure the proper location of current or future assets.

As a Gridtern, you will support designers and design supervisors in various tasks, participate in field visits, and collaborate with other departments. Additionally, you may be assigned other tasks as they arise. This internship offers a valuable opportunity to gain hands-on experience in power distribution design and contribute to the development of a reliable energy infrastructure.

Regional Account Services (RAS) (Buffalo, NY)

Our Regional Account Services (RAS) team is a customer-facing team within National Grid that manages electric service requests, planned outages, and account coordination for regional customers. Our Regional Account Services (RAS) representatives handle complex service projects, coordinate with engineering and construction teams, and maintain customer satisfaction through proactive updates and issue resolution. Additionally, the team supports strategic initiatives like outage improvement projects and process enhancements to improve reliability and customer experience.

As a Gridtern, you will support end‑to‑end service projects by collecting and validating field data, mapping assets and updates in GIS, and mining datasets to surface actionable insights, while working day‑to‑day with a highly motivated, cross‑functional team. This opportunity will blend both field work and office analysis, emphasize rigorous error checking and documentation, and require rapid learning and navigating through various corporate systems to keep jobs moving and stakeholders informed.
