The Substation Technician II - CDL Reports to the Substation Supervisor. The position involves the operation, testing, maintenance, and commissioning of substation apparatus including interrupting devices, isolating devices, power transformers, voltage regulators, and protection relays. Procedures are applied to determine the best course of action within the limits of standard practice.
Sign-On Bonus Opportunity: Qualified candidates may be eligible for a sign-on bonus of up to $5,000, based on experience and credentials.
This is a Non-exempt onsite position at our Sedalia office, located at 5496 N. U.S. Highway 85, Sedalia, CO 80135.
You will...
•Perform routine maintenance, minor repairs, and adjustments of distribution transformers, voltage regulators, reclosers, and switchgear.
•Program and repair controls on capacitor banks, voltage regulators, and electronic reclosers.
•Maintain a clean, safe environment in the oil shop and substation work area.
•Respond to call-out for restoration of service due to substation outage. In addition, you will be subject to call-out at all hours, including holidays and weekends, to restore or maintain electric service to consumers.
•Operate CORE CDL-required commercial vehicles and equipment. Employees in this position are not required to drive tractor/trailer combinations or mobile substations.
•You will inspect, test, repair, and certify as usable rebuilt oil-filled equipment when necessary.
•Perform oil tests to determine PCB content and maintain required CORE and EPA documentation when necessary.

•High school diploma or equivalent certificate required.
•Substation Technical Apprenticeship, vocational degree, or relevant technical training required. Two or more years of experience, or equivalent experience/education required.
•Experience with position-specific software and applications.

•Experience with position specific equipment.
•[ e.g., Doble M4100, Doble F6150SV, Doble M5400 SFRA, Fluke Multimeter, Megger, Dilo gas cart and SF6 Multi-Analyzer, Vanguard TRM-403, Phenix, Alber CellCorder, etc.]
•[e.g. Power Transformers, Autotransformers, SF6 Breakers, Vacuum Breakers, Arc Resistant Switchgear, NOVA reclosers, Gang Operated Switches, Motor Operators, Load Break SF6 & Vacuum Interrupters, CCVT's, CT's, PT's, LTC's, Voltage Regulators, Capacitor Banks, Sump Pumps, Oil Filtration, SCADA Systems, SEL Relaying, Beckwith Controls, Qualitrol Temperature Monitors, Bitronics Meters, etc.]
•Competent with general office equipment.
•Competent with Microsoft Office: [Excel, Word, Outlook].
•Requires a valid Colorado Driver's License (CDL) with class A designation and air brake endorsement and a current DOT medical certificate must be maintained.
Knowledge and Skills
•The worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading; visual inspection involving small defects, small parts, and/or operation of machines (including inspection); using measurement devices; and/or assembly or fabrication of parts at distances close to the eyes.
Working Conditions and Physical Requirements
•Heavy work: Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
•The worker is subject to inside environmental conditions: Protection from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature changes.
•The worker is subject to outside environmental conditions: No effective protection from weather.
•The worker is subject to both environmental conditions: Activities occur inside and outside.
•The worker is subject to extreme cold: Temperatures typically below 32 degrees for periods of more than one hour. Consideration should be given to the effect of other environmental conditions such as wind and humidity.
•The worker is subject to extreme heat: Temperatures above 100 degrees for periods of more than one hour. Consideration should be given to the effect of other environmental conditions such as wind and humidity.
•The worker is subject to noise: There is sufficient noise to cause the worker to shout in order to be heard above the ambient noise level.
•The worker is subject to hazards: Includes a variety of physical conditions, such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, moving vehicles, electrical current, working on scaffolding and high places, exposure to high heat or exposure to chemicals.
•The worker is subject to atmospheric conditions: One or more of the following conditions that affect the respiratory system of the skin: Fumes, odors, dusts, mists, gases, or poor ventilation.
•The worker is subject to oils: There is air and/or skin exposure to oils and other cutting fluids.
•The worker frequently is in close quarters, crawl spaces, shafts, manholes, small enclosed rooms, small sewage and water line pipes, and other areas which could cause claustrophobia.
•The worker is required to function in narrow aisles or passageways.
