Key Responsibilities
- Supports activities associated with substation inspections and substation maintenance.
- Provides technical expertise for maintenance technicians to ensure the safety and reliability of the electric system.
- Prepares cost estimates and schedules for maintenance related projects.
- Develops and prepares specifications for equipment purchases.
- Works closely with the Director of Power Delivery and Substation Maintenance Supervisor in the installation, calibration, and maintenance of substation equipment.
- Plans and coordinates construction for capital improvements at existing transmission substation and switching station facilities.
- Reviews and evaluates substation equipment based on maintenance documentation and inspection records.
- Utilizes the company’s asset management system to monitor and review the maintenance activities of substation equipment.
- Provides instruction and explanation of equipment and systems to aid personnel in troubleshooting, analyzing, isolating, and repairing substation equipment and systems.
- Plans, coordinates, and directs the repair, installation, or replacement of station and related equipment by contract forces when required.
- Maintains detailed records of substation equipment maintenance, testing, and repairs, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and documentation standards.
- Adheres to safety protocols and best practices to protect oneself and others when working on live electrical equipment. Stay updated on safety regulations and guidelines.
- Participates in emergency response activities during power outages, storms, or other critical situations, assisting in the quick restoration of electrical service.
- Stays current with advancements in protective relay technology, control systems, and industry standards. Implement innovative solutions to enhance system reliability.
- Collaborates with other utility personnel, including engineers, electricians, technicians, and system operators, to optimize system performance and respond to issues effectively.
- Coordinates and monitors contractors’ activities when required.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Willingly accepts range of assignments. Exhibits a “can do” attitude toward future challenges.
- Basic knowledge of the structural design and layout, electrical arrangements, relaying, supervisory control, equipment selection and procurement methods associated with the design and construction of electric utility facilities.
- Ability to perform basic and advanced calculations using given formulae and data and interpret the results against given standards.
- Ability to understand and develop designs that meet all applicable code and standards requirements.
- Ability to read and interpret reports, plans, specifications, alternatives and cost estimates.
- Knowledge of AutoCAD and related programs is desired.
- Knowledge of MS Project or similar program is desired.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications including Outlook, Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and complete assigned tasks with minimal supervision as well as within a team environment.
- Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET accredited institution.
- Must hold a valid driver’s license.
