Your Role:Substation Apparatus Technician - Remote
What You’ll Do
- Perform acceptance and maintenance testing on substation equipment such as circuit breakers, power transformers, CTs, PTs, switches, and bus systems.
- Conduct electrical tests including insulation resistance, power factor (Doble), TTR, winding resistance, contact resistance, timing, and SFRA.
- Disassemble, inspect, and repair circuit breakers, disconnect switches, and tap changers as needed.
- Interpret single-line diagrams, control wiring schematics, and equipment drawings.
- Accurately document test results, equipment deficiencies, and recommended repairs in detailed reports.
- Operate test equipment such as Megger, Doble, Vanguard, Omicron, and other industry-standard devices.
- Ensure all work complies with safety standards, NETA guidelines, and customer specifications.
- Maintain and calibrate test equipment and tools.
- Coordinate with engineers, electricians, and other field personnel to ensure accurate work execution.
- Travel to project sites throughout assigned regions (typically 50–75%) including overnight stays.- 3+ years of experience performing substation equipment testing and maintenance.
- Familiarity with substation equipment manufacturers such as ABB, Siemens, GE, Mitsubishi, and others.
- Proficiency with testing techniques for high-voltage apparatus.
- Ability to read and understand technical drawings and manufacturer manuals.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to pass drug and background screenings.
- Willingness to travel and work extended hours, including weekends, when required.
- Associate’s degree in Electrical Technology or related field.
- NICET Level II or III Certification or equivalent field testing credentials.
- OSHA 10 or 30-hour certification.
- Experience working in energized substations under utility safety practices.
