The Lead Person – For each production line or assigned area is responsible for the safety, productivity and security of all production employees staffed on a designated shift. The Lead is accountable for ensuring that work scheduled for completion is executed in a timely manner and within all quality parameters. They are also responsible for the proper functioning and maintenance of machinery, plant or bay fixtures, product, inventory and stores.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES: The following duties are typical for this classification. Incumbents may not perform all of the listed duties and/or may be required to perform additional or different duties from those set forth below to address business needs and changing business practices.
•Oversee the production process, following outlined production schedule.
•Create a culture of safety addressing potential hazards immediately and ensuring strict compliance to company safety protocols.
•Ensure SME Steel’s efficiency and performance goals are met or exceeded.
•Ensure that all SME Safety and health guidelines and rules are enforced and practiced by department’s employees.
•Supervise, train and mentor all new employees and continue to coach all existing employees.
•Review the performance of subordinates, assisting them to make improvements where needed.
•Maintain a clean and safe work environment.
•Enable effective communications between employees and management.
•Investigate, document and where applicable, discipline incidents, which are violations of SME’s policies, procedures and rules. Pay particular attention to violations of all SME safety rules.
•Work with Plant Manager to determine human and material resource needs for department or line.
•Ensure that prescribed line and lifting device preventative maintenance is completed in a timely manner.
•Know skill levels of subordinates and provide leadership and development where required to improve department or line’s capabilities.
•Other duties that may be assigned.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
•Prefer High School diploma, GED or equivalent,
•3 - 5 years of Structural Steel Fitter/Welder experience and previous supervisory experience.
•Must be dependable, reliable, and mature enough to safely manage a team of employees.
•Ability to work for extended hours in a physically challenging environment. Must be physically fit.
•Sound technical welding and blueprint skills and an aptitude to supervise individual and/or teams of welders and fitter/welders.
•Able to read blueprints, understand and use concepts related to shop manufacturing and effectively use skilled employees to safely accomplish department and line production goals.
•Ability to communicate verbally and in writing, if necessary, with subordinates, co-workers, inspectors and maintenance personnel.
•Demonstrated ability to supervise employees and production processes. Must be able to set priorities, identify and address problems, meet deadlines and stay within allotted hours and budget.
•Must have the ability to plan and organize and leadership skill to make plans effective.
