About Us:
Emerald Energy From Waste is a TSSA-registered, first-class power plant that provides safe, reliable, and cost-effective energy from waste. The Emerald facility has been in continuous operation since 1992. Currently, we are undergoing a redevelopment project that will expand our processing capacity to 2,500 tons per day (t/d) of municipal and commercial waste, and increase our energy recovery rate to 100 MW. We are seeking a talented Relief Assistant Shift Engineer to join our operations team and contribute to our growth and success.
Job Overview:
As a Relief Assistant Shift Engineer, you will play a key role in maintaining and operating our facility's equipment in a safe, efficient, and effective manner. This includes performing preventive maintenance, resolving operational issues, and supporting both the operations and maintenance teams. You will be required to work on a weekday shift schedule (6:00 AM - 2:30 PM) with occasional rotation onto a continental shift schedule, which includes both day (6:00 AM - 6:00 PM) and night shifts (6:00 PM - 6:00 AM).
Key Responsibilities:
•Operations & Maintenance:
•Safely operate and maintain equipment to ensure continuous, efficient facility operations.
•Complete minor repairs and preventive maintenance activities.
•Perform housekeeping tasks as needed to maintain a clean and safe work environment.
•Identify, diagnose, and resolve operational issues promptly and effectively.
•Follow strict lock-out/tag-out procedures for systems and equipment.
•Assist with maintenance and contractor services when necessary.
•Perform boiler soot blowing and boiler water blowdowns.
•Conduct water sampling and tests to ensure optimal system performance.
•Systems and Equipment Managed:
•Air pollution control systems
•Heat recovery boilers and steam/water piping systems
•Steam turbines and gas turbine generator units
•Pre-treatment water and boiler water treatment systems
•Air compressors, pneumatic systems, and hydraulic pumps
Required Qualifications:
•3rd Class Stationary Engineer certification required
•Several years of experience in operating and maintaining thermal and power generation equipment is highly preferred.
•Experience with municipal solid waste incineration equipment is an asset.
•Mechanical aptitude and hands-on experience with tools and systems.
•Experience with DCS (Distributed Control System) and PLC (Programmable Logic Controllers) is an asset.
•Ability to operate and navigate DCS and operator interface stations.
•Physical capability to use hand tools, power tools, and climb stairs or ladders when needed.
•Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
•Ability to work effectively in a team and foster positive working relationships.

•The role involves working in a challenging industrial environment, specifically in a non-hazardous solid waste facility.
•The position is physically demanding, requiring the ability to access confined spaces and elevated work areas.
