Sr. External Affairs Analyst

The Nuclear Company is seeking a proactive and driven External Affairs Analyst to join our growing team. The External Affairs Analyst will be at the forefront of gathering, interpreting, identifying trends and presenting data to support strategic decision-making. The ideal candidate will be adept at navigating complex information landscapes, translating data into actionable insights, and building relationships with external partners. This is a hybrid role based out of our Columbia, SC office and there will be travel as needed.

- Information Gathering and Research: Proactively identify, locate, and gather pertinent information from diverse external sources, including government publications, industry reports, academic research, and stakeholder communications.

- Data Synthesis and Analysis: Critically evaluate and synthesize complex information, identifying key trends, potential impacts, and strategic implications for The Nuclear Company. The ability to conduct quantitative analysis to support findings is a significant plus.

- Stakeholder Engagement: Cultivate and maintain relationships with key external stakeholders, including community leaders, universities/trade colleges, channel partners, internal stakeholders and the public, serving as a crucial link for information exchange. This will include travel as needed for events and meetings with external stakeholders.

- Policy and Regulatory Monitoring: Continuously monitor and analyze relevant legislation, regulations, and policy developments at all levels, assessing their potential impact on the company and providing timely updates and analyses.

- Decision Support: Prepare clear, concise, and insightful reports, presentations, and briefing materials that effectively communicate findings and recommendations to internal stakeholders, facilitating informed decision-making.

- Communication and Advocacy Support: Assist in the development of communication strategies by providing well-researched and synthesized information to support the company's external messaging and advocacy efforts.

- Risk and Opportunity Assessment: Analyze external trends and information to identify potential risks and emerging opportunities for The Nuclear Company and propose recommendations and industry best practices.

- Project Contribution: Support various projects by providing in-depth external analysis and stakeholder insights. Work with project controls and identify AI opportunities.

- Reporting and Tracking: Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of information gathered and analyzed, contributing to the development of knowledge management resources.

- Organizational Support: Provide limited organizational support to the VP of Regulatory & External Affairs (10% or less)

Experience

- Bachelor's degree in Political Science, Public Policy, Economics, Data Science, or a related field. Advanced degrees with a focus on research and analysis are desirable.

- Minimum of 5 years of experience in an analytical role within government relations, public affairs, market research, or a related field. Experience in the energy sector, particularly nuclear energy, is a plus.

- Demonstrated ability to independently research, gather, and synthesize information from various sources.

- Brings a strategic mindset, positive outlook, desire to learn, critical thinking, resourcefulness, and a drive to achieve optimization through iteration to work tasks.

- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex information clearly and persuasively.

- Proven ability to build and maintain professional relationships.

- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

- Ability to work independently and proactively.

- Comfortable working in a start-up environment which is fast-paced and evolving.

- Valued but not required:

- Experience conducting quantitative analysis and utilizing relevant software or tools (e.g., Excel, statistical software).

- Graduate degree in a relevant field.

- Proven ability to identify and generate relationships with external partners, including nonprofits, local leaders, and Tribal representatives.

Estimated Starting Salary Range

The estimated starting salary range for this role is $118,000 - $140,000 annually less applicable withholdings and deductions, paid on a semi-monthly basis. The actual salary offered may vary based on relevant factors as determined in the Company’s discretion, which may include experience, qualifications, tenure, skill set, availability of qualified candidates, geographic location, certifications held, and other criteria deemed pertinent to the particular role.
