The Rotating Equipment Specialist ensures reliable operations by providing frontline expertise in the maintenance and optimization of rotating equipment systems at Freeport LNG. This role applies both proactive and reactive maintenance strategies to sustain equipment reliability and performance. Acting as a technical resource, this position involves troubleshooting, repair guidance, and collaboration with cross-functional teams while focusing on safety, implementing strategies to enhance reliability, and continuous improvement of rotating equipment assets to minimize downtime.
This position is based at the Terminal Facility, LQF or PTF, with travel to off-site locations as required. This position requires the incumbent to hold a valid, unexpired driver license at all times in order to perform the essential functions of the job.
Prioritize safety above all tasks, ensuring both personal safety and the safety of other personnel during all maintenance and operational procedures.
Ensure compliance with FLNG safety standards, procedures, and PPE requirements, incorporating safety into every stage of repair, alignment, and troubleshooting.
Continuously monitor the performance of rotating equipment systems, proactively identifying issues and negative trends that could impact reliability or lead to process failures.
Conduct condition monitoring, including vibration analysis, oil analysis, and thermography, to proactively identify equipment issues before failure.
Establish or improve equipment monitoring capabilities, including the implementation of missing equipment monitoring systems to prevent unexpected failures.
Conduct basic “5 Why” analyses for equipment failures to identify root causes and recommend corrective actions.
Participate in and contribute expertise during formal root cause investigations, sharing insights into repair techniques and recurring failure modes.
Collaborate with engineers and maintenance technicians to implement solutions that address chronic failures, improving long-term reliability.
Engage in equipment disassembly and existing condition evaluation to determine potential root causes for equipment failure. Oversees equipment rebuilds to ensure proper reassembly. Identify any necessary hold points for critical equipment.
Act as the go-to subject matter expert on all aspects of rotating equipment, including pumps, compressors, turbines, motors, and fans.
Provide coaching and technical guidance to craftspeople and operations personnel, fostering skill development in proper rotating equipment troubleshooting, repair practices and advanced diagnostics.
Develop, review, and refine maintenance and repair procedures, ensuring alignment with quality control standards and incorporating necessary repair details for optimal execution.
Ensure consistent application of these procedures by maintenance teams, contributing to the standardization of high-quality repair practices across the site.
Ensure repairs, repair techniques, and equipment specific training are documented and retained per the records management requirements.
- Technical Proficiency: Expertise in rotating equipment systems, control theory, and electronics, with in-depth knowledge of both mechanical and digital processes.
- Problem-Solving Skills: Advanced analytical and troubleshooting abilities to address complex issues and determine the root causes of recurring failures.
- Attention to Detail: High accuracy in vibration analysis, alignment, configuration, and repair processes to prevent production issues and maintain system reliability.
- Communication and Collaboration: Strong communication skills to work effectively with engineering, operations, and maintenance teams and to share technical insights.
- Leadership: Ability to guide and mentor team members, promote high safety standards, and coordinate activities for continuous improvement.
- High School graduate or GED.
- 10 + years of field, hands on experience as a Rotating Equipment Technician in an Industrial and/or Chemical Process Environment.- In-depth knowledge of mechanical systems, rotating equipment design, and maintenance best practices.
- Proficiency in rotating equipment diagnostics and condition monitoring tools; strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Must be proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel and SAP Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS)
- 20 years’ experience in a maintenance or projects supervisory role in the LNG, Chemical or Refining Industry.
- Diploma or degree in Rotating equipment, Industrial Technology, or a related field or equivalent experience.
- Advanced level experience in Microsoft Word, Excel and SAP Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS)
- Relevant certifications (e.g., Vibration Analysis Category I/II, API) are preferred.
- Highly effective verbal and written communication skills including the ability to prepare reports and make presentations.
- Must have good prioritization skills with ability to work many different projects at the same time.
- Must be a Self-Starter, with the ability to work with minimal Supervision.
- Experience in cost controls methodology and tracking
- Basic First Aid, permit to work, Incident reporting, Accident Investigation, Emergency Response Plan, SDS.
Support the policies, efforts, and programs of Freeport LNG Health, Safety and Emergency Regulatory Management Assist in the development of action plans and objectives. Actively participate in the HSE and Regulatory management policies. Ensure that HSE and regulatory concerns are given priority in all activities completed within their area of responsibility. Implement routine inspections to ensure safe operating conditions.
