The Specialist, Financial Planning & Analysis plays a key role in executing budgeting and forecasting processes, conducting variance analysis, and providing proactive financial guidance to achieve organizational targets.
What you’ll do
Financial Planning and Analysis
- Collaborate with business leaders to understand financial needs, providing insights and guidance to support decision-making.
- Prepare annual budgets and quarterly financial forecasts.
- Conduct monthly variance analyses and provide supporting documentation to compare actual results against budgets and forecasts.
- Identify key drivers of variances and offer actionable insights and recommendations.
- Prepare and present financial reports, dashboards, and presentations to communicate performance, key metrics, and insights to stakeholders.
- Develop and maintain reporting templates and tools for financial planning and analysis.
- Liaise with internal stakeholders to support reporting and data provision needs.
- Identify opportunities to enhance financial planning, analysis, and reporting processes by streamlining workflows and implementing new tools and technologies.
- Ensure accuracy, integrity, and completeness of financial data by maintaining data models.
- Ensure compliance with legislative, regulatory, and Health & Safety policies.
- Provide technical expertise in planning, designing, and implementing projects and key initiatives.
- Support the preparation and review of annual burden, shared services, and quarterly allocations.
- Gather and analyze confidential payroll information for analysis, budgeting, and forecasting.
- Perform additional tasks as assigned to support operational objectives

Who you are
Education & Technical Knowledge
- Post-secondary education in Business Administration, Finance, or Accounting.
- Professional accounting designation (CMA, CGA, CA, CPA) preferred.
- Extensive knowledge of budgeting and forecasting principles and technical accounting knowledge of IFRS.
- Experience with IBM Cognos TM1 Platform / IBM Planning Analytics is an asset.
- Advanced proficiency in financial modeling, management reporting, and IT-based automated budgeting tools.
- Strong proficiency in Excel and other MS Office applications.
- Familiarity with the energy and utility industries, including the regulatory environment.
- Minimum of 3-5 years of related work experience in financial reporting and variance analysis.
- Experience in developing and supporting detailed financial models and demonstrated project management skills.
- Experience with ERP systems such as IBM Cognos TM1, JDE, Microsoft BI is an asset.
- Experience in a unionized utility environment is an asset.
- Highly self-motivated with a strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills with the ability to provide practical solutions.
- Strong written and presentation skills, capable of explaining technical information clearly.
- Ability to plan, prioritize, and execute multiple projects within established timelines.
- Ability to build and maintain collaborative relationships with stakeholders.
- Must hold and maintain a valid Class "G" driver’s license.
- Hybrid: This role is based in a hybrid environment, allowing for a mix of remote and in-office work to support team collaboration and business needs.
