The Position
Site & Production Manager
Job Summary
The Site & Production Manager is responsible for the day-to-day operations including coordinating production, distribution, warehousing, and sales in accordance with policies, principles, and procedures established by the Perlite Quality System and Imerys’ policies and procedures. Operates and maintains an efficient productive and safe workplace through direct enforcement of such policies and procedures. The Plant Manager has direct supervision responsibilities over employees working in production, maintenance, delivery, and of the health and safety functions.
•Primary responsibility for the plant’s budget and shared responsibility for sales forecasts (shared responsibility with the sales team and the US Perlite corporate controller).
•Supervisory responsibility for 10 employees. More than 50% of time is spent supervising others.
•Requires interaction with customers, vendors, regulatory personnel, and corporate personnel.
•Manages capital projects
•Raw material includes industrial and food grade materials.
•Minimal domestic travel required (2-3 times/year) and typically no international travel required.
Key Tasks And Responsibilities
•Ensure operation has the resources and capability to meet commitments to customers including labor, raw materials, packaging, storage capacity,
•Supervise all employees at plant including performance development, execution of disciplinary action, and defining expectations
•Review and approve all expenses ensuring the profitability of the operation
•Ensure maintenance of a safe and clean work environment for employees through direct supervision and guidance through corporate policies and standards
•Manage and coordinate the actions of four departments (Production, Maintenance, Quality Control, and Customer Service)
•Communicate with customers to assure that quality and service standards are the best possible
Education And Experience Requirements
•Bachelor’s degree (BA) in chemical, mechanical engineering or related major plus 4 years of experience, including leadership responsibilities
•OR minimum 10 years of experience, with at least 2 of those in a heavy industrial manufacturing environment with leadership experience
•Experience as a supervisor or manager in an industrial setting is preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities And Other Characteristics
•Highly organized with ability to work well with customers, employees, management, and vendors.
•Knowledge and understanding of business fundamentals.
•Efficient in the use of a PC for email research and basic day to day work using excel, word, and PowerPoint.
•The ability to use a telephone for basic calls and conferencing with management, customers and vendors.
•Understanding of OSHA guidelines
•Knowledge of good business practices associated with the production of food grade products.
•Proficient with system process controls.
•Excellent teamwork skills are required to coordinate all areas of business at the plant and corporate levels.
•Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as fundamentals of geometry, and basic math skills such as percentages, fractions, and ratios.
•Ability to identify problems, collect data, establish facts, and define resolutions.
•Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
•Ability to interpret financial reports, production schedules, and legal documents.
•Effectively present information to upper management, employees and groups.
•Effectively develop budgets and forecasts.

The majority of time is spent inside of an environmentally controlled office building in a small sized office. Frequent visits to the processing plant which is slightly noisy and sometimes dusty. Most of the day is spent around the 9-10 other employees that are in and out of office.
