Turn-on, shut-off, adjust, troubleshoot, limited parts replacement and make minor repairs on gas fired appliances, including but not limited to ranges, furnaces, and water heaters; may turn-on, shut-off, set, test, remove or change gas and electric meters; light pilots in furnaces, water heaters and ranges. Check the operation of residential and commercial gas equipment; check gas lines for leaks or appropriate pressure. Conduct tree safety check; identify foreign utilities; remove jammed locking rings; respond to customer electric equipment complaints and residential meter complaints; perform other related duties as assigned or required.
- Must have a good safety and driving record.
- Must have ability to absorb formal training and schooling.
- Must have demonstrated mechanical ability.
- Must have a valid California driver's license.
- Must have a good attendance record.
- Must have the ability to perform physical tasks to include lifting, climbing ladders, crawling etc.

PHMSA (Pipeline & Hazardous Materials Safety Administration)
The U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) and the California Public Utilities Commission have adopted regulations governing the control of drug use by persons in certain job classifications. This job is covered by that regulation (49 CFR 199) and candidates who are not already in a covered job classification will be tested for the presence of prohibited drugs and must meet DOT standards before appointment to the job. Candidates who do not successfully pass the drug test will be required to enter a drug rehabilitation program as a condition of returning to their present job. Once in the job, successful bidders will be subject to random drug testing. California State law has requested public utilities to investigate the criminal background of employees who have access to customers' homes. Accordingly, for protection of customers' properties and homes, fingerprinting and background investigations will be conducted on candidates for these positions before placement.
