Reporting to the Superintendent, Operating Excellence and Controller, the Senior Specialist, Operating Excellence is responsible for developing and supporting key improvement initiatives. As a subject matter expert and practitioner in Continuous Improvement (CI), the individual will evaluate site opportunities, benchmark site performance, and be accountable for promoting, coaching, and leading a proportion of the site’s improvement initiatives pipeline. The successful candidate will work with the operating departments in the evaluation, implementation, and sustainment of initiatives with end users, leadership, and digital teams.
To be successful, we are looking for someone with a proven record of implementing continuous improvement initiatives from valuation through sustainment, who can think critically about business problems, build business cases, and communicate succinctly to various audiences. You should be comfortable interpreting and explaining results from analytical models and statistical methods to support improvement opportunities. Our environment is fast-paced and dynamic, so the ability to manage changing priorities in a detail-oriented and organized manner is essential. Above all, you will have excellent interpersonal and communication skills and can build and maintain strong relationships across the company.

- Lead the design of the structure and road map for the operational excellence model through the integration of principles, behaviours, systems, and tools
- Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders to ensure that each project will deliver the required benefits and is appropriately resourced
- Catalyze the creation of a culture whereby every person in the organization applies the tools of continuous improvement within the scope of their daily work
- Lead analysis/studies to identify improvement initiatives that impact the equipment utilization, physical availability and operating efficiency in the mine, the plant and support departments
- Lead the delivery of multiple projects at a time, managing scope, quality, and client relationships
- Establish training programs, comprehensive training strategies, materials, procedures, delivery methods, and competency assessments
- Build capabilities of employees in the responsible area, through training and coaching with a focus on local management levels
- Perform maturity assessments within the site to highlight strengths and weaknesses of the existing Wiring and identify areas for improvement
- Continuously measure and monitor improvement processes by preparing progress reports for meetings and conducting post implementation reviews and project follow up
- Create and implement integrated operational procedures and standards based on best practices from the industry leaders and Operating Excellence/Lean philosophy
- Promote site-wide culture of Operating Excellence and the sharing of site successes that can be actioned across our operations
- Other tasks as assigned
- Minimum seven years relevant experience in the resource sector, with two years’ experience in continuous improvement
- Minimum of two years’ experience in continuous improvement or operating excellence environment using Lean, Six Sigma, PIP or other CI processes
- Undergraduate degree in Finance, Mining, Engineering, Business, or Processing or diploma preferred
- Professional Designation (P Eng., P Geo., CFA, CPA, MBA or equivalent) is preferred
- Excellent digital literacy and experience in Microsoft Office Suite® including Excel, Word, and Outlook, Microsoft Dynamics AX, SAP and Power BI
- Additional programming experience using SQL, Python, etc. preferred
- Experience working in the role of a management consultant would be an advantage
- Valid Class 5 Driver’s License or equivalent
The actual base salary offered is determined based on the successful candidate’s relevant experience, skills, and competencies and considers internal equity.
