Rainy River Mine
Situated in beautiful northwestern Ontario, 65 km northwest of Fort Frances, the Rainy River Mine is an open pit, gold and silver producing, residential mine site.
The Rainy River Mine, located adjacent to the Ontario / Minnesota border is 65 Kilometers northwest of Fort Frances, Ontario and is situated half way between Winnipeg, Manitoba and Thunder Bay, Ontario The area is home to more than 130 species of birds and large populations of moose, black bear and deer. Position Reports To: Procurement & Contract Supervisor
Position Overview
The Senior Procurement Specialist is responsible for identifying, implementing and monitoring strategic sourcing in order to create value, realize cost savings and ensure compliance across site. This position is responsible for the procurement of a wide variety of commodities, materials, supplies, equipment, and services for New Gold, many of which are highly technical and require the application of complex procurement standards and procedures, including negotiation.
The Senior Procurement Specialist prepares detailed bid specifications, requests for quotations for commodities and services, requests for proposals for commodities and services, and purchase orders, as requested by New Gold departments and will present the summarized findings to the respective departments and management for review and selection. The Senior Procurement Specialist employs advanced critical thinking and writing skills in the development and evaluation of the more complex requests for proposals for commodities and services.
In collaboration with New Gold departments, the Senior Procurement Specialist identifies varied sources of commodities and services, evaluates bids, awards contracts and purchase orders, develops standards for new products or services, maintains contact with vendors, and maintains comprehensive descriptions of available products and current prices. The Senior Procurement Specialist expedites the ordering and delivery process for commodities or services and assures invoice payment by monitoring the process from initiation of a purchase order through the receipt of the goods or services and billing from the vendor or supplier.
Key Responsibilities
• To achieve the best overall value when procuring goods and services while balancing quality, reliability, price and delivery costs and risks.
• Sourcing and purchasing materials as required, negotiate effectively with suppliers to obtain best value.
• Responsible to manage IBA commitments and foster good relationship with local communities.
• Purchase capital equipment for the mine as identified by the Supply Chain Manager.
• Analyze and forecast industry supply and demand trends to support the development and implementation of effective sourcing for the mine
• Develop and implement vendor qualification and evaluation criteria including vendor certification and vendor performance metrics.
• Assist in procurement projects and programs to achieve business goals and continuous improvement process.
• Resolve Account Payable issues and purchasing problems between departments and suppliers.
• Manage purchase orders through to close out and resolve any associated queries on a timely basis.
• Maintain strong communications links and good working relationships with all customers and interfacing departments assisting others to meet the business objectives.
• Follow standard purchasing operating procedures and ensure compliance with company policies and legal requirements.
• Remain objective in all procurement activities and ensure transparency and a high degree of professionalism and ethical conduct at all times.
• Lead investigations into Procurement issues that arise with the goal of identifying root causes and correcting for future purchasing.
• Assist Vendors and Suppliers in advising on all internal procedures needed to successfully deliver to site (ISNet, Hazardous Goods processes, getting setup with Accounts payable, etc)
• Mentor and assist procurement team members to increase overall team knowledge and departmental efficiency.
• Manage relationships with external vendors and suppliers to ensure business needs are met, while addressing challenges and identifying improvement opportunities.
• Work closely with Procurement Supervisor to align on departmental KPI’s and procurement activities and prioritizing work efforts.
• Complete all tasks and responsibilities as assigned by Procurement Supervisor, Superintendent or Manager.
Qualifications
• Post-Secondary degree or courses specific to Supply Chain Management
• Min 5 years of experience in Senior Procurement position is required and experience within the mining industry is considered an asset.
• Strong computer skills with a proficiency in Microsoft Office applications are essential.
• Experience working in Ariba is an asset
• SAP 4HANA experience essential.
• Demonstrated strong organizational, time management skills and self motivated individual.
• Ability to forge relationships both internally within different departments and externally with suppliers.
• Ability to prioritize tasks and works well under pressure.
• Independent thinker capable of taking initiative and finding solutions for challenges.
• Ability to work with minimal supervision in a fast paced and changing work environment.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills with internal and external contacts.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
