Job Summary

The Senior Scheduler reports to the scheduling manager and is responsible for nominating, scheduling, and monitoring gas transportation, purchases, sales, and storage volumes on pipeline and/or LDC systems to effectuate gas flow to serve Symmetry customers. The senior scheduler also serves as mentor and role model to schedulers with less experience. This position is for the Gulf Coast Region.


Essential Functions


Nominates and schedules gas transportation on pipeline and/or LDC systems in compliance with con-tract provisions and the Tariff timing and procedures.
Collects and monitors electronic flow measurement data for company receipt and delivery points each day and adjust nominations to minimize imbalances.
Monitors weather forecasts and pipeline and/or LDC transportation allocations and makes projections of gas demands and communicates this information to Gas Supply, Utility Sales, Retail Sales, and if re-quired other regional office personnel, requesting their input on gas demand, then makes gas flow or nomination changes as necessary to keep gas supply in balance with market demand.
Maintains knowledge of volume commitments contained in gas supply and transportation contracts and nominates supplies to optimize delivered costs within contract limits.
Maintains knowledge of pipeline/utility asset pricing components to optimize scheduling efficiency. Reviews pipeline/utility invoices to verify proper charges and assess historical scheduling performance.
Monitors pipeline and/or LDC electronic bulletin boards for critical information including operational restrictions and emergencies and communicates the pertinent information to Gas Supply, Utility Sales, Retail Sales, other regional office personnel, and management.
Monitors pipeline electronic bulletin boards for transportation discounts and communicates with pipe-line transportation representatives to assure that the Company uses the most cost effective and reliable pipeline transport services.
Proactively analyzes assigned area of responsibility for system optimization opportunities and collabo-rates with Gas Supply and Sales to determine most economical decisions and provides input into deal valuations/structuring.
Has the financial acumen required to contribute to trading and operational strategy.
Helps review and verify gas transportation invoices from pipelines to assure accuracy and resolve dis-crepancies with pipeline transporters.
Creates, updates, and controls contents of gas scheduling and allocation computer files. Verifies system data and audits accuracy of system data.
Prepares daily and monthly reports as required indicating gas volumes flowed, transport imbalances and storage balances.
Prepares and analyses reports to manage gas flow activity.
Leads the development and implementation of new processes to streamline workflow.
Oversees the work of less experienced analysts, directs as necessary and provides training and coaching to ensure maximum operating efficiency.
Able to participate in on-call activities when required during various weekday, evening and/or weekend/holiday hours to assist customers and/or company personnel.
Other duties as assigned.


Education/Certification/Experience

Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university or relevant work experience required.
In lieu of a degree, will consider a combination of education and related experience in natural gas operations or scheduling totalling four (4) years. Experience in lieu of education is addition to experience requirements.
Eight (8) or more years of experience directly scheduling natural gas preferred (At least Four (4) years of experience directly in the scheduling of natural gas required).
Experience scheduling natural gas pipelines in the Gulf Coast region preferred.
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel required.
Working knowledge of Endur or other similar ETRM system required.

Additional Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Personal Characteristics

Able to demonstrate and apply knowledge of gas flow (from wellhead to burner tip) and of capacity release on pipelines.
Able to demonstrate and apply strong technical and analytical skills including a demonstrated knowledge of economic evaluations and financial modeling.
Able to learn, demonstrate and apply knowledge of policies, procedures and regulatory rules affecting gas supply volume administration activities including economic evaluations, financial modeling, general nomination and volume allocation processes.
Able to think, reason and act logically in order to minimize transportation rates and resolve problems with effective solutions.
Able to recognize and handle confidential information in a discreet manner.
Able to learn, adapt to and apply new technology and to change.
Able to demonstrate and apply proficiency in the use personal computers and their business applications, including working knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Office – Word/Excel/PowerPoint and other database management software as necessary.
Able to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, in a clear and concise manner.
Able to demonstrate commitment and follow through to assure that tasks are completed as necessary.
Able to work with close attention to detail, in a highly accurate manner to produce complete and timely work.

Physical Requirements

Able to effectively communicate orally and in writing, utilizing clear and concise language.
Able to perceive and understand verbal communication in person, as well as over communication devices such as telephone or mobile phone.
Able to visually perceive information on a personal computer monitor or laptop screen for extended periods of time.
Capable of operating a personal computer, whether it is a desktop or laptop, for extended periods of time to create, compose, and review documents and spreadsheets.
Competent in operating office equipment, including but not limited to telephones, mobile phones, photocopiers, scanners, and calculators.
Able to reach, grasp, and manipulate items necessary to perform job tasks.
Able to remain in a stationary position for extended periods of time as required by job responsibilities.
Proficient in speaking, reading, and comprehending the English language.
Able to exert up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, and/or a minimal amount of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.


Working Conditions

Able to work in fast-paced office environment with a high-volume workload and frequent short deadlines that may require more than a 40-hour work week to meet established deadlines including working nights or weekends, as required.
Able to participate in on-call activities when required during various weekday evening and/or weekend/holiday hours to assist customers and/or company personnel.
Able to work scheduled overtime on a regular basis and unscheduled overtime as workload demands.
Able to work in open-concept office environment.
Able to travel occasionally, possibly overnight, to pipeline and customer meetings and/or energy industry conferences.
Able to work remotely during emergency or critical operating conditions.
