ECF Engineering Consultants is a full-service engineering firm that specializes in delivering technical solutions to the Energy Markets and both public and private sectors requiring electrical and mechanical engineering support. We assist these organizations with a wide range of projects, providing advice on technology use, design solutions for electrical and mechanical systems, public health systems, and equipment procurement and construction phase services.
Mechanical engineering design for commercial, institutional, industrial, municipal, and residential HVAC and plumbing projects. The candidate should have expertise in HVAC design, plumbing system design, energy efficiency retrofits, and energy management systems, and be capable of solving complex problems creatively as well as managing people, processes, and projects. We seek someone who can coach, teach, and mentor other engineers. The candidate will be responsible for designing projects, preparing reports and specifications, and providing a high level of technical leadership.
The position requires the candidate to develop and manage HVAC and plumbing projects from initial design, permitting, and bid documentation preparation to providing contract administration services during construction and commissioning phases.
Perform a substantive role in the design, preparation of specifications, administration functions, or field engineering related to assigned engineering projects under the supervision of the incumbent’s immediate supervisor or other designated professional engineer. The incumbent must be capable of using various design software tools necessary for performing design and engineering tasks associated with assignments. The incumbent must also possess an understanding of both basic and complex issues associated with developing construction documentation for the assigned project.
1. Design of engineered systems of the largest size and highest complexity. Activities shall include, but not be limited to, the following:
- Performing HVAC load calculations, sizing and specifying equipment, designing ductwork and piping layouts, system design, system layout, conducting field investigations, overseeing construction administration, and performing life cycle cost analyses of HVAC and plumbing systems for various project types.
- Providing consulting services, including preparing reports and assessing feasibility studies.
- Producing drawings consistent with client requirements and standards.
- Establishing design standards, specifications, and criteria for projects.
- Conducting business development activities, participating in various trade organizations, and preparing presentations.
- Preparation of high-quality mechanical construction documents, including drawings, specifications, and reports. Deliver quality work that promotes client trust retention.
- Performing site survey of existing system conditions for interfacing new designs with existing mechanical and plumbing systems.
- Review mechanical documents for areas of conflict with all building systems
- Close coordination with the client and the entire design team, including owners, architects, contractors, members of other disciplines, and internal support staff to ensure: The design is consistent with the client’s vision/standards; A fully coordinated interdisciplinary design; The design schedule is maintained.
- Monitor project construction activities to ensure adherence to plans and specifications. Activities may include, but are not limited to, the following: serve as Resident Engineer on small projects. Interpret plans and specifications and utilize available information to meet all project design requirements. Stay familiar with relevant engineering and construction codes and ensure compliance with all of them. Develop and oversee construction schedules to ensure the project is completed on time. Implement and manage changes to the work when different site conditions occur. Conduct on-site design or investigation work to verify the adequacy of methods. Review, evaluate, and approve contractor’s invoices. Inspect equipment to be installed and authorize for payment. Prepare reports and feasibility studies for management review.
- Serve as a project engineer or project manager on assigned projects.
- Promote efficient flow of information and ensure complete and accurate record keeping.
- Be familiar with the Client/Company’s drawing system and design and construction standards as well as applicable industry codes and practices.
- Prepare and/or monitor complex construction schedules to ensure timely completion of the work.

- Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering in a related field from an accredited University. Mechanical Professional Engineer’s license desired (State of Florida).
- 7 - 10 years of experience in engineering of related projects.
- Strong understanding and knowledge of industry and national codes and standards, including but not limited to the Florida Building Code, National Plumbing Code, SMACNA, and ASHRAE.
- Experience with system design software, CADD, and Microsoft Office products required. Strong analytical and management skills.
- Willingness to travel for site surveys, project scope walks, and meetings.
