Job Title: Senior Manager-Substation Standards
This position can be located in Rochester, NY, Augusta, ME or Orange,CT. This is an onsite position.
The salary range depends on location and experience level ranging from $138,657 to $190,654.
Job Summary
The Senior Manager – Substation Standards will be responsible for identifying, justifying, seeking approval, scoping, staffing and delivering on projects aimed at bringing efficiencies to the processes of design, construct, commission, maintain, operate and renew electrical substations for Avangrid OpCOs.
This person will be managing internal and external resources and will have to coordinate different initiatives while providing technical direction and prioritization assessments.
This person will report to the director of substation management in P&T and will be collaborating closely with managers / representatives of other areas (standards, commissioning, p&c, projects, maintenance, planning, operations, etc.) to help identify areas of efficiency /improvement.
Key Responsibilities
•Directs and manages subordinate staff. Sets group goals and strategic direction and initiates action plans and assignments to accomplish goals. Develops business plans with technical justifications and economic impact and seeks approval from executives.
•Provides technical support, guidance, coaching and counseling toward effective performance and appraises individual performance. Develops organizational performance measures, initiates actions to enhance performance, reviews work processes, systems, procedures and practices and directs changes to improve productivity or control costs.
•Overseas the labor and equipment resources, balancing the service quality and efficiency.
•Set and administers company policies and procedures. Plans and implements training and development of department personnel. Determines staffing needs and obtains approval for resource requirements. Develops and controls department budget.
•Recommends promotions, personnel changes, budgets, organizational changes and company policies.
•Coordinates with Projects, Electric Ops and other areas of P&T to identify opportunities for efficiency/improvements in the areas of design, construction, commissioning, maintenance, compliance, control and protection and renewal of electrical substations.
•Analyzes broad technical alternatives or process and builds business cases to seek approval for the implementation of new long term solutions.
•Manages all stages of the implementation of efficiency projects, including, but not limited to, scheduling, cost management, resources allocation, prioritization, risks, dependencies with other areas etc.
•Provides technical support to the team and to the operating and maintenance departments of the companies. Coordinates with other departments, consultants, utilities, regulatory agencies and government agencies. May represent the companies in technical committees at NYISO, ISO-NE, NPCC, and other regulatory agencies. Provide technical input and testimony to the Public Utilities Commissions if need it.
Required Qualifications
•Bachelor’s degree in engineering with a minimum of 12 years relevant experience in electrical substations required.
•Proficiency in management of all the stages of a substation project; conceptual design, detail design, construction and commissioning.
•Broad experience in procurement processes for equipment and services associated with substation projects.
•Broad knowledge of substations operation and maintenance.
•Experience in reviewing and analyzing federal and state statutory and regulatory codes and actions and proposing long term plans to address the requirements.
•Experience in developing design and equipment standards based on industry standards, best practices and operational feedback.
•Experience in developing processes, procedures and performance
•KPIs for continuous improvement.
•Exceptionally strong planning, coordinating and organizational skills.
•Competent leadership skills, with ability to manage multiple assignments and conflict resolution.
•Able to foster individual professional development.
•Strong communication skills to articulate highly technical concepts.
•High safety adherence to involve in the activity.
•Able to communicate effectively with outside regulatory and governmental agencies, as well as the rest Companies across Avangrid Networks.
