The Senior Manager, Interconnection Services – Operational Portfolio Support will participate with the NextEra Energy Resources Business Management organization to support the operations portfolio. The Senior Manager will perform congestion management assessments based on future outages and develop mitigation proposals associated with reconfigurations, remedial action schemes and/or outage coordination. As an experienced regional technical team member, the position is required to work with internal project developers/originators, and external entities including Regional Transmission Organization (RTO), Independent Systems Operators (ISO), Transmission Providers (TP), and Transmission Owners (TO) to review and evaluate interconnection standards and study practices, transmission siting feasibility, system impact studies, and Large Generator Interconnection Agreement (LGIA).
The ideal candidate will have the following skills and experience:
- Expert in steady-state thermal/voltage, short-circuit, transient stability using industry analytical tools such as PowerGEM TARA, PSS/E, Dazer, and Power world including programming and automation
- Ability to coordinate with multiple internal and external SMEs to complete comprehensive technical analysis
- A power systems background with a thorough understanding of transmission planning and NERC reliability standards
- Strong understanding of the operations and transmission planning processes within RTOs/ISOs and Transmission Providers.
- Understanding of transmission policy and regulatory issues related to generator interconnection
- Ability to communicate complex technical information succinctly to external stakeholders and all levels of management
- Provide solutions for technical transmission issues for development projects and current assets
- Demonstrated experience and working relationship with ISOs (preferred SPP, MISO, ERCOT) or select utilities in a role related to generator or load interconnection agreements, utility and ISO interconnection study methodology, criteria, business practices, and transmission planning with focus in grid reliability.
- Conduct forward looking impact analysis utilizing state estimator, planning, and TCR models.
- Conduct post impact assessments to identify root causes associated with Bulk Electric System congestion.
- Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders, including ISO/RTOs, developers, and utility companies, to facilitate mitigation plans.
- Develop and implement automations to optimize forward looking impacts to the Business Management operating portfolio.
- Monitor industry trends, regulatory changes, and technological advancements to inform strategic planning and decision-making.
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned
