Senior Legal Counsel

Reporting to the General Counsel, the Senior Legal Counsel will be involved in all aspects of Brookfield Renewable’s legal function and interact with all areas of the business, with a focus on commercial contracting and energy trading.
Responsibilities
•Provide legal advice on Brookfield Renewable's US hydroelectric, wind, solar, and storage fleet.
•Support trading activities, including negotiation, drafting, and review of power purchase agreements and master trading agreements.
•Support senior counsel, VP of regulatory affairs and Chief Risk Officer in managing regulatory compliance for trading activities and FERC matters.
•Manage and execute project level transactions, including financings, greenfield developments, asset sales, acquisitions, and other project-related legal matters. Particular focus will be on commercial contracts with tech hyperscalers and other counterparties.
•Support mergers and acquisitions, including thorough diligence review and integration of acquired transaction portfolios.
•Supervise external litigation counsel and lead settlement discussions.
Qualifications
•Demonstrated ability to provide practical, business-oriented legal advice and recommendations
•Strong communication skills and ability to present clear and practical legal arguments
•Ability to work in a dynamic, fast-paced, environment and to adapt quickly to changing priorities
•Highly self-motivated and proactive; eager to take ownership over work product and able to advance work independently
•Team-oriented, demonstrating a commitment to shared success above any personal accomplishment or recognition
•Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to develop collaborative relationships at all levels in the organization
•Strong analytical and problem-solving skills combined with attention to detail and thoroughness
•Excellent organizational skills and capability to effectively manage priorities while meeting timelines
•Requires travel, from time to time, dependent upon project/transaction dynamics
Requirements
•Three (3) years of legal experience at a top law firm or large multinational corporation
•A university degree (LLB; JD) in law and member of a state bar association
•Experience in the power sector is considered an asset, including in project finance or supporting trading and risk management teams
Salary Range: $200,000 - $270,000
