Senior Instrumentation Engineer / Instrumentation Engineering Lead

We are seeking a Senior Instrumentation Engineer / Instrumentation Engineering Lead
to support studies and projects across North America. This hybrid role combines:
- Lead or Senior Instrumentation Engineer responsibilities on studies and projects (~75%)
- Development and maintenance of discipline standards, procedures, and knowledge systems (~15%)
- Line management and mentoring of Instrumentation Engineers across the North American offices (~10%)
The role includes coordination of instrumentation engineering activities for concept studies, pre-feasibility and feasibility studies, EPCM projects, and EPC execution. The successful candidate will act as a
Subject Matter Expert (SME)in areas such as datasheet standardization, P&ID markup standards, instrumentation installation details, and the implementation of EPLAN and Revit-based workflows.
- Lead instrumentation engineering activities across studies and projects.
- Develop, maintain, and oversee the instrumentation database using EPLAN.
- Ensure all discipline designs comply with client standards, industry codes, and relevant legislation.
- Provide technical interface between instrumentation and other engineering disciplines.
- Review vendor, contractor, and consultant design information for accuracy and compatibility.
- Lead peer reviews and ensure quality of all instrumentation deliverables.
- Drive continuous improvement, lessons learned, and implementation of new technologies.
- Provide professional engineering sign-off for instrumentation deliverables.
- Support process engineers in equipment and instrumentation specification and selection.
- Oversee markups and back-drafting of redline drawings, engineering handovers, and commissioning documentation.
- Serve as SME in discipline-specific areas and contribute to development of North American standards and procedures.
- Guide and mentor all ECI (Electrical, Control, Instrumentation) engineering disciplines.
- Provide onsite engineering support to contractors and commissioning teams as needed.
- Support procurement activities, including preparation of instrumentation package documentation and contract management.
- Ensure effective integration with design office, project management, and other disciplines.
- Maintain workload forecasting for instrumentation resources.
- Allocate assignments to instrumentation engineers to meet project deliverables.
- Support recruitment, onboarding, training, and development of discipline resources.
- Participate in performance management and competency development activities.
- Ensure compliance with project procedures and DRA’s safety culture.
- Prepare structured, accurate, and professionally presented reports and deliverables.
- Manage discipline-specific time, risk, quality, and technical coordination activities.
- Maintain proactive communication across the project team, ensuring timely resolution of interface issues.
- Support commissioning activities, including inspections, testing, and handover.
- Manage adherence to change management procedures.
- Manage discipline and drafting man-hours for assigned work packages.
- Ensure instrumentation designs align with budget and project quantities.
- Apply appropriate contract management practices for instrumentation procurement packages.
- Track utilization and ensure effective deployment of instrumentation engineering resources.
- Maintain professional communication with clients and project stakeholders.
- Keep clients informed of technical status and design progress.
- Support development of proposals, estimates, and business development initiatives.
- Ensure DRA maintains its position as the client’s preferred engineering partner.

- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Automation Engineering, or related discipline.
- Professional Engineer (P.Eng. / PE) registration.
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel and instrumentation database tools (SQL, MS Access, EPLAN).- 10+ years of instrumentation engineering experience within the mining/mineral processing or EPCM environment.
- Extensive experience in project engineering and instrumentation design for studies and execution projects.
- Experience managing engineering personnel, including mentoring and line management responsibilities.
