The Opportunity
Reporting to the Manager of Internal and External Reporting, the South Bow Controller team is seeking an experienced Accountant in Calgary to support the company's Internal and External Reporting.
The Senior Financial Analyst – Financial Reporting will be a key contributor to South Bow's external financial reporting efforts. We are looking for a detail-oriented and driven professional with expertise in public company reporting to join our team. This position involves preparing financial reports in accordance with US GAAP requirements. It offers an exciting opportunity to enhance the external reporting process, analyze financial results, and take on various ad hoc projects. You will collaborate closely with senior finance professionals and cross-functional teams to aid decision-making and strengthen the overall financial health of the organization.
What You’ll Do
• Support the preparation of the quarterly and annual financial statements, MD&A under US GAAP and other regulatory filings including statutory audits.
• Ensure proper documentation and reconciliations of financial transactions in accordance with internal controls and US GAAP.
• Support month end processes including journal entries and schedules.
• Perform variance analysis of accounting results and investigate differences.
• Assist with preparation of internal results for senior management.
• Work closely with auditors to support the external annual audit process and other statutory audits.
• Contribute to the building of processes relating to external & internal reporting and internal controls under public company reporting standards including Sarbanes-Oxley.
• Conduct technical accounting analysis as required including researching accounting standards and regulatory updates, conducting peer analysis, and preparing memos.
• Collaborate with accounting teams, finance, and other stakeholders to ensure accurate, efficient, and transparent financial reporting, while fostering a culture of continuous improvement in processes.
• Provide mentorship and support to junior team members, helping them develop their technical skills and understanding of financial reporting, US GAAP, and internal controls.
• Identify and implement process improvements for financial reporting, accounting processes, and controls to enhance accuracy, efficiency, and compliance.
• Stay up to date with changes in SEC rules, US GAAP, and other relevant financial regulations impacting financial reporting.
• Participate in cross-functional projects and special initiatives as needed.
Minimum Qualifications
• University degree in Business, Commerce, or a related field.
• Canadian Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation.
• 6+ years of experience in accounting, financial reporting, auditing, or a related role, preferably in the midstream/energy industry.
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience with Microsoft Dynamics 365, OneStream and Workiva.
• Experience with public company reporting and US GAAP is preferred.
• Self-motivated with a strong analytical skill set and desire to learn and take on new challenges.
• Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.
• Attention to detail with the ability to perform effectively under tight deadlines with multiple priorities.
• Continuous improvement mindset for reporting and internal controls processes.
