Job Summary:
Alpine is seeking a Senior Equipment Technician with hands-on experience in the marine survey industry. This role supports the maintenance, integration, and troubleshooting of geophysical, hydrographic, and oceanographic equipment. The position is primarily based onshore, with occasional field support for project mobilizations and demobilizations. Ideal candidates will have strong technical knowledge, a proactive work ethic, and a solid background working with marine survey systems in both bench and field environments.
Responsibilities:
•Perform advanced troubleshooting and repair of geophysical, hydrographic, and geotechnical survey equipment.
•Set up, configure, and test survey systems including sub-bottom profilers, multibeam echosounders, sidescan sonars, magnetometers, nav systems, USBLs, and ROTVs.
•Conduct system checks, keep calibrations up to date, and perform routine maintenance on equipment prior to mobilization.
•Maintain field laptops and survey computers, including relevant software installations and updates.
•Track and document equipment status, repairs, and service records using Alpine’s internal resource management system.
•Support field crews during mobilizations/demobilizations, both on-site and remotely.
•Work in a team-oriented environment, collaborating closely with research scientists and other technical support staff.
•Identify and resolve hardware/software issues under tight project timelines.
•Organize and maintain equipment storage and warehouse to ensure operational efficiency.
•Assist in writing service reports, part requests, and post-project equipment evaluations.
•Contribute technical insight to improve readiness, integration, and system reliability across survey operations.
•Maintain and track equipment upgrades, firmware updates, and bench testing protocols.
•Advise on the purchase of new equipment and related software where appropriate.
•Comfortable working in offshore environments.
•The candidate would have opportunities for hands-on training in other disciplines throughout the company.
Qualifications:
•4+ years of hands-on experience with marine geophysical and hydrographic equipment.
•Strong background in electronics, equipment integration, and system troubleshooting.
•Associate degree or technical certification in Marine Technology, Electronics, or a related field preferred.
•Proficient in Microsoft environment and basic networking.
•Excellent attention to detail, organizational skills, and technical documentation.
•Ability to work independently and respond effectively to changing field priorities.
•Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
•Willingness to travel up to 10%, including some offshore assignments.
Physical Requirements:
•Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work in warehouse, field, and marine environments.
•Prolonged periods working at a bench or computer station.
•Comfortable in active mobilization/demobilization settings and occasional offshore conditions.

The pay range for this role is:
60,000 - 75,000 USD per year(Norwood, NJ)
