Senior Data Engineer (Information Technology)

Our talented Integration & Data Engineering team as a Senior Data Engineer ! Our team manages over 150 technology integrations across our organization and maintains a variety of data engineering platforms and systems, including Microsoft Fabric, Power BI, Infomart, ION ETL (Pentaho), and Azure.

This role sits on the Data Engineering side, which supports data-driven decision making and machine learning to help improve business processes and, ultimately, Colorado Springs Utilities' ability to deliver safe, reliable, and competitively-priced utility services. If you have experience with data engineering and implementing and maintaining enterprise data management systems, preferably in an information technology setting, we want to hear from you!

Please note that upon successfully completing probation (six months), this position offers a hybrid working arrangement (three days remote and two days onsite per week).


What Else Will You be Doing?

Implementing and maintaining data engineering systems (Microsoft Fabric, Power BI, Infomart, ION ETL (Pentaho), and Azure)
Leveraging advanced, cloud-scale tools to ingest and prepare enterprise data for reporting, alerting, machine learning, and data science
Maintaining source code management repositories for supported systems
Writing technical documentation and process flows for supported systems
Providing technical expertise to examine, troubleshoot, and repair application problems within supported systems
Developing Fabric pipelines, notebooks, and copy tasks for providing data to analytics end users
Analyzing and researching new technologies applicable to data engineering
Engaging in requirements gathering through understanding business processes and end user needs
Translating functional requirements into technical solutions, and communicating and documenting solutions as needed
Creating standard operating procedures and implementing process improvements as needed


Who You Are

Demonstrated data engineering systems experience is required ; knowledge and proficiency with Fabric, Power BI, Infomart, ION ETL (Pentaho), and/or Azure is valued* Experience working with data warehouses is required* Experience with Microsoft Power Platform (Power Apps, Power BI, Power Automate) is required* Experience developing automated data validation and testing routines is valued* Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Software Engineering, Data Science, or a related field is valued*
