The Senior Chemist is responsible for overseeing the analytical procedures, QA/QC and data management protocols related to the analysis of process solutions, ore and copper cathode samples. This role ensures compliance with industry standards, optimizes laboratory workflows, and provides technical expertise in chemical analysis techniques. The Senior Chemist also supports process improvements, research and development initiatives, and regulatory compliance within a mining laboratory environment.Key Responsibilities1. Analytical Testing & Quality Control* Perform and oversee chemical and instrumental analysis of ores, minerals, tailings, and process-related samples.
•Utilize techniques such as ICP-OES, ICP-MS, XRF, AAS, titration, and wet chemistry to determine metal concentrations and other properties.
•Develop, validate, and optimize analytical methods for accuracy, precision, and efficiency.
•Ensure all test results meet ISO, ASTM, EPA, and other regulatory and industry standards.
•Implement quality control procedures, including calibration, standardization, and proficiency testing.
2. Laboratory Management & Operations* Lead and mentor a team of chemists, lab technicians, and analysts.
•Maintain and enforce safety protocols, hazardous materials handling, and environmental compliance in the lab.
•Ensure proper maintenance, troubleshooting, and calibration of laboratory instruments.
•Manage laboratory inventory, including reagents, standards, and consumables.
3. Research & Development* Collaborate with metallurgical and process engineering teams by providing analytic service in support of plant optimization and metallurgical testing activities.
•Develop innovative solutions for analytical sample preparation, and elemental analysis to improve laboratory efficiency.
•Stay updated on advancements in analytical chemistry.
4. Data Analysis & Reporting* Interpret analytical results and provide technical reports for internal and external stakeholders.
•Develop data-driven recommendations to support operational decision-making in mining and mineral processing.
•Ensure proper documentation and record-keeping of all analytical work.
5. Regulatory Compliance & Auditing* Ensure compliance with environmental regulations, mine safety standards, and industry best practices.
•Assist in audits, inspections, and certifications
•Develop and maintain laboratory Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
Required Qualifications & ExperienceEducation:* Master’s degree in Chemistry required, PhD in Chemistry preferred.
Experience:* 5+ years of experience in a mining, metallurgy, or analytical laboratory environment.
•Expertise in ICP, XRF, AAS, and other spectroscopic and chromatographic techniques.
•Experience with quality control programs, method development, and laboratory accreditation processes.
•Strong background in sample digestion methods (acid digestion, fusion, etc.).
•Previous supervisory or leadership experience is preferred.
Skills & Competencies:* Proficiency in instrumental analysis and data interpretation.
•Strong understanding of chemical processing in mining.
•Ability to troubleshoot analytical instrumentation and methods.
•Knowledge of LIMS (Laboratory Information Management Systems).
•Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.

•May require travel to mine sites and operational facilities.
