Join Our Team as a Second Shift Roving Utilityman!
The York Water Company is seeking a dependable and safety-conscious Roving Utilityman to support the operation and maintenance of our water distribution system.
What You’ll Do:
•Respond to water main breaks and notify appropriate supervisory personnel
•Inspect, maintain, and paint hydrants and valves
•Perform customer service-related fieldwork such as turn-offs, turn-ons, and system locates
•Install and remove water meters
•Set and remove work zone safety items (barricades, signs, plates, and lights)
•Work with municipal and state paving crews to ensure valve boxes and pits are at the proper elevation
•Complete required documentation including service orders and forms
•Participate in scheduled Saturday shifts on a rotating basis
•Respond to emergency call-outs and perform mandatory overtime as needed
•Assist with general duties such as cleaning vehicles, equipment, and facilities
What We’re Looking For:
Education & Experience:
High school diploma or equivalent. Prior experience in water utility work or construction is preferred, but we are willing to train motivated candidates with a strong work ethic.
Certifications & Licenses:
Valid PA driver’s license required.
Skills & Knowledge:
•Familiarity with tools such as valve keys, curb keys, wrenches, meters, and tap machines
•Ability to read and follow work orders, safety procedures, and technical instruction
•Physical ability to perform manual labor outdoors in all weather conditions
Physical Requirements:
This is a physically demanding position requiring frequent lifting, bending, and walking. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
