Sure Shot Environmental Ltd. is an Alberta-based company providing Industrial Vegetation Management Services to Utility, Oil and Gas, Pipeline and Municipal sectors. Sure Shot specializes in herbicide application, utility consulting, environmental assessments, tree trimming/pruning, tree slashing and hazard tree removal. We are currently looking for Seasonal Herbicide Applicators to start in June 2025.
This is a summer position to provide vegetation management services to our customers throughout Alberta, primarily treating utility facilities and right-of-ways with herbicides for the control of noxious weeds and incompatible brush. Personnel are required to work away from home base for extended periods as the work locations are throughout the province of Alberta. This is a challenging and rewarding position for the person who is self motivated, enjoys independent working, and is committed to a safe and positive work environment. We often hire university students from all over Western Canada.
Herbicide applicators often work in crews of 2-6, using various equipment to get the job done including but not limited to: 1 or 2 ton truck, trailers, UTV, Hagglund, Muddox/Argo, backpack sprayers, handpicking, weed whips/brush saws and grass mowers. You will be trained for any equipment you will operate.

· Build leadership skills – strong candidates may lead their own crew in their first year, or develop the skills to do this in subsequent seasons.
· Above average earning potential through overtime and extended hours of work per day. Most staff average 65-75hrs/week. Overtime is paid according to Alberta Labor Code and is based on a standard 10 hour work day / 44 hour week
· In 2024, First Year staff who worked from May 1 - August 20 earned between $30-39K Gross Pay. Similar earning potential is expected for the 2025 season.
· Living Out Allowance and paid accommodations when working away from home base
· No previous applicator experience is required as hands-on training will be provided. Any additional training and safety courses will be arranged for and provided to employees as required.
· Valid Class 5 Drivers License mandatory and capable of driving a 1 or 2 tonne truck.
· Valid Standard First Aid/CPR and CSTS 2020 are mandatory
· Self motivated, with excellent time management and communication skills
· Ability to work as part of a small team with minimal direct supervision
· Physically fit – able to perform strenuous work in an outdoor setting all summer long and perform medium lifting of 25kgs
· Minimal summer commitments and able to work away from home for extended periods
· Computer skills in Microsoft Office and Dropbox. Reimbursement for use of personal cellphone and computer with Microsoft Office
· Willing to provide a safe work environment and follow all appropriate legislation in our industry, including accurate record keeping
· Ability to perform basic service and maintenance on job-related equipment and/or the ability to recognize and report when such is required
· Provide your own CSA-approved steel-toe or composite rubber boots. No leather boots.
· Must be insurable/bondable and willing to provide information for a driver’s abstract
· Farming and/or mechanical background is a strong asset
· Trailering, cargo securement and towing experience is a strong asset
· Experience driving large trucks on gravel and lease roads is considered an asset
· Previous experience or education in environmental, forestry, agricultural and land reclamation is an asset
· AB Industrial Pesticide Applicators or AB Authorized Assistant certification is an asset
