Bob’s Metals, Inc. provides high quality scrap metal recycling services to industrial, manufacturing and service industries throughout the Pacific Northwest region. Our company utilizes state-of-the-art equipment including material handlers with grapples and magnets, forklifts, mobile shears, balers, and metallurgical analyzers to recycle scrap material effectively. Scrap metal is processed by sorting, cutting, torching, shearing, and baling. Our company has a strong commitment to efficient and environmentally friendly processing of metals to specific size, density and quality that is preferred by steel mills and foundries for melting in the production of new finished products.
The Scale Operator is responsible for the operation of the main truck scale and will work in the scale office as a point of contact for ferrous and non-ferrous activity including purchasing from public customers, dealers, and industrial accounts. This position will require the ability to identify various types of metals, use internal computer software programs and heavily interact with customers both in person and on the phone. In addition, there will be a heavy focus on data entry and input including functions of accounts receivable, accounts payable and other administrative aspects of the business such as answering phones, document production, scanning, filing, and flow of correspondence.
This position will work directly with all other scale house personnel including the Dispatch and Logistics Coordinator and the Global Logistics Coordinator to discuss any specific daily needs and will also interact with other employees and supervisors within the Company.
It is expected that minimum working hours will be Monday - Friday from 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM with the opportunity to work overtime hours at the discretion of management. Occasional Saturday shifts may also be required at the discretion of management. This is not a remote position. You will be working in our office full-time where sanitary measures have been implemented to ensure the safety and protection of all employees.
- Assist with operation of the main truck scale to purchase scrap metal.
- Utilize computer software to weigh, record, and transact customer loads.
- Identify and understand different types of scrap metal and related pricing.
- Physically inspect all loads to ensure accurate grading and no purchase of prohibited materials.
o Will require ability to climb up and down ladders and along the scale walls.
o Will be exposed to weather elements including rainy and cold or sunny and warm conditions.
- Answer all office phone calls and send/receive faxes and emails.
- Assist with purchase and sales invoice preparation and container loading documentation.
- Manage cash drawer including paying customers, daily cash counts and ordering cash.
- Data entry into Excel spreadsheets and Recycling Operations Manager (ROM) software.
- Assistance with general memos and daily mailing preparation.
- Facilitate safety committee meetings and other coordination.
- Assist yard supervisors and managers with data entry and computer operation.
- Provide backup dispatch operations support covering breaks, lunches, vacations or leaves of absence of primary scale operations personnel.
- Provide backup customer service phone support when multiple lines are in use.
- Demonstrate high degree of professional customer relations interactions with customers, vendors, and peers.
SKILLS REQUIRED TO PERFORM THE DUTIES OF THE JOB:
- Superior organizational skills and ability to multi-task with many tasks.
- Experience working with weight scale and fleet management systems or the ability to learn quickly.
- Possess strength in detail, superior organizational skills and follow up.
- Team player and able to build and maintain internal and external relationships.
- Intermediate knowledge of computers and systems with the ability to learn new software platforms, specifically Recycling Operations Manager (ROM), CRO Dispatch, Microsoft applications (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Possess positive attitude and display willingness to learn new things and accept responsibility.
- Experience identifying ferrous and non-ferrous metals or the ability to learn quickly.
- Able to handle the physical demands of all assigned jobs which may include bending, lifting to 50 pounds and sitting or standing for extended periods of time up to 8 hours per day and climbing ladders.
- High school diploma or GED plus a minimum of two years vocational, college or work experience appropriate to the job description.
- Previous experience in a manufacturing, industrial or wholesale business is preferred.
- Previous experience in a scrap yard is a plus.
