Job Summary:

The Assistant Safety Manager is responsible for supporting and managing the implementation of comprehensive safety and security programs. This position plays a critical role in ensuring a safe work environment for all employees, contractors, and visitors, while minimizing risks to people and property.


Essential Functions:

Develop, implement, and maintain corporate safety and security policies and procedures.
Promote and enforce a zero-incident safety culture through continuous training, monitoring, and improvement initiatives.
Ensure organizational compliance with federal, state, and local safety and security regulations (e.g., OSHA, NFPA).
Assess hazards and develop response plans for emergencies, disasters, and security threats.
Organize and conduct emergency response training, drills, and exercises.
Facilitate safety and security audits, inspections, and risk assessments.
Provide strategic input to senior management on safety and security planning and performance.


Key Duties and Responsibilities:


Safety Management:

Oversee corporate safety programs including training, inspections, reporting, and policy enforcement.
Lead incident investigations and recommend corrective actions.
Maintain safety manuals, safety audit reports, and compliance documentation.
Coordinate safety initiatives with Human Resources, Engineering, and Operations departments.
Develop and manage the safety department's operating and capital budgets.
Manage the Job Hazard Analysis, near-miss reporting, and chemical safety programs (GHS compliance).
Supervise and evaluate safety department staff, providing training and guidance.
Maintain and oversee fire extinguisher programs, first aid supplies, AEDs, and respiratory protection programs.
Oversee the safety Learning Management System and track employee compliance with required training.
Audit contractor paperwork and OSHA logs
Stay current on regulations and requirements by OSHA, NFPA, and state programs to ensure compliance through audits.
Lead and foster safety culture.
Manage chemical safety practices ensuring adherence to GHS.


Security Management:

Maintain corporate physical security systems including CCTV, access control, and intrusion alarms.
Respond to and investigate security incidents, alarms, and threats.
Provide emergency response support.
Liaise with federal and state emergency and security agencies (e.g., DEMA, FEMA).
Review construction and remodeling plans for security and safety compliance.
Audit physical security vendors and ensure Sarbanes-Oxley and regulatory compliance.
Assist in managing secure cash handling, access controls, and physical security of assets.
Collaborate with Cybersecurity for integration of physical and digital security measures.
Develop long-term strategic plans and goals for corporate security.


Emergency and Risk Management:

Prepare emergency response and disaster recovery plans.
Lead emergency preparedness efforts including training and equipment maintenance.
Participate in the planning and execution of drills and emergency simulations.
Act as company liaison for emergency management and security-related matters.
Review and enhance the company’s Emergency Response Plan annually.


Qualifications:


Education and Certifications:

·        Prefer Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Health & Safety, Emergency Management, or a related field.

·        Professional safety certifications preferred ( Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Occupational Health and Safety Technologist (OHST),

or

Construction Health and Safety Technician (CHST).

·        FEMA/DEMA emergency management training or certification is a plus.

·        Valid driver’s license; Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) or ability to obtain preferred.

·        First Aid, CPR, AED, and Fire Extinguisher Training certifications required or must be obtained within 6 months of hire.


Experience:

·        Minimum of 3–5 years of progressive experience in occupational safety, industrial safety, or emergency management.

·        Experience conducting safety audits, inspections, incident investigations, and risk assessments.

·        Experience working with regulatory compliance programs including OSHA, DOT, NFPA, and EPA.

·        Prior experience with Learning Management Systems (LMS) and safety training coordination.

·        Familiarity with physical security systems (e.g., CCTV, intrusion alarms, access control) is preferred.


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

·        Strong knowledge of safety management systems, regulatory compliance, and hazard identification techniques.

·        Familiarity with emergency preparedness, disaster response planning, and security risk mitigation.

·        Excellent verbal and written communication skills; able to prepare detailed reports and present training materials clearly.

·        Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and safety software platforms (e.g., audit management, SDS databases).

·        Ability to interpret technical safety regulations and apply them to company operations.

·        Strong organizational skills and attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.

·        Ability to lead, motivate, and mentor a team of safety personnel.

·        Calm under pressure and capable of making sound decisions during emergencies.

·        Demonstrated ability to foster a culture of safety across all levels of the organization.

Proven experience in safety and/or security management in a corporate or industrial setting.
Knowledge of OSHA, DOT, NFPA, and other relevant regulations.
Strong leadership, communication, and investigative skills.
Experience in budget development and managing vendor relationships.
Ability to respond to emergencies promptly and effectively.
CDL knowledge and understanding of DOT compliance requirements preferred.


Work Environment & Conditions:

Split between office work, field inspections, and emergency response activities.
Occasional travel to construction sites, vendor locations, and court hearings.
On-call availability for emergencies and security incidents.


ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

·        This position requires the ability to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally,

and/or

20 pounds of force frequently,

10 pounds of force constantly

to move objects.

·        The role involves a combination of

sitting, standing, walking, bending,

climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and

reaching

in both office and field environments, including construction sites and operational facilities.

·        Must be able to

inspect job sites, access confined spaces,

and

traverse uneven or rough terrain

as needed.

·        Requires the ability to speak, hear, read, and write correspondence; must. 

operate standard office equipment,

including computers and communication devices.

·        Must be able to wear

personal protective equipment (PPE).

·        Visual acuity is required for reviewing documents, conducting inspections

, and

observing safety conditions

.

·        Must be able to

respond promptly to emergency situations

, which may require physical agility, endurance, and travel between various company locations.

·        Requires ability to learn a sequence of operations and steps and operational processes; ability to research and analyze routine problems or data pertaining to problems of a routine nature;

·        Requires competency in basic levels of business math and accounting in assignments related to data input and beginning level analysis.


PHYSICAL EFFORT:

Requires ability to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
