FLSA Status: Salary Exempt Reports To: VP of Safety, QC, and Efficiency
Essential Job Functions:
•Support leadership in planning, implementing, and coordinating safety programs, policies, and procedures for all active construction sites.
•Attend pre-construction meetings as needed to determine the owner’s expectations and safety requirements for each project.
•Survey construction projects and environments regularly to identify and assess physical conditions, safety practices, hazardous situations, and ensure compliance with established safety standards.
•Collaborate with project management and build teams to develop and implement site-specific safety plans tailored to the project’s unique requirements.
•Develop comprehensive safety plans, lead pre-activity safety meetings, and conduct regular safety audits.
•Monitor and enforce compliance with all OSHA, federal, and state safety requirements, ensuring construction sites are consistently up to code.
•Investigate incidents and accidents, conduct root cause analyses, and recommend corrective and preventive actions to mitigate future risks.
•Assist with maintaining certification and training records for all construction crew members, ensuring proper documentation and compliance with safety standards.
•Coordinate with the VP of Safety, Project Managers, and other team members to continuously improve the effectiveness of safety policies, procedures, and practices across projects.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required to Perform Essential Functions
Technical Knowledge:
•Clear and effective communication skills (both written and verbal) for disseminating safety information, conducting training sessions, and interacting with teams.
•Strong understanding of construction practices, including the ability to read and interpret construction prints, job plans, and project specifications to ensure safe work practices.
•Comprehensive knowledge of safety regulations, including but not limited to scaffolding, excavation, confined spaces, air pollutants, fall protection, and personal protective equipment (PPE).
•Proficiency in hazard identification and risk assessment, with the ability to perform thorough evaluations and implement preventive strategies.
•Familiarity with safety equipment and tools, gas monitors, first-aid kits, and fall protection systems and other industry related safety tools.

•High attention to detail, ensuring all safety regulations are followed to prevent accidents and maintain compliance with OSHA and other regulatory bodies.

•Problem-solving abilities, with the capability to quickly investigate and address safety incidents and recommend corrective actions to improve safety processes.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to stand or sit for extended periods; handle and manipulate controls on a repetitive basis.
Strong visual and auditory acuity, able to distinguish back-up alarms, voices, and other typical construction site sounds to ensure site safety.
Ability to climb in and out of equipment and handle equipment safely.
Ability to lift up to 40 lbs as necessary for site safety and maintenance activities.
Environmental Adaptability:
Work in various weather conditions and across different locations and times of day. The role requires outdoor work and the ability to adapt to changing environmental factors.
Required to wear protective gear including a hard hat, hearing and eye protection, and high-visibility clothing as per job site safety protocols.
Training and Experience:
•Minimum 5 years of progressive experience in safety engineering or auditing within the construction industry, with a proven track record of ensuring safe, efficient operations on site development, industrial, and mechanical projects (e.g., water/wastewater treatment plants, heavy civil construction, etc.).
•Deep knowledge of OSHA safety standards (29 CFR 1926), with a required OSHA 30 certification; OSHA 510 certification is highly preferred.
•Industry-recognized certifications such as CSM, CSMC, CSHM, CHST, CSP, and COSS are strongly preferred; the ideal candidate will be actively pursuing or willing to pursue additional certifications to stay ahead of industry trends.
•Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to effectively engage all levels of staff—from field employees to senior leadership—ensuring alignment on safety priorities.
•Outstanding organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize multiple projects and meet deadlines while maintaining a laser focus on safety and compliance.
•Proven ability to work independently, with a strong sense of self-motivation, proactivity in identifying safety challenges, and the initiative to develop and implement solutions for continuous safety improvement.
•Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, safety management software, data analysis tools, and database management for tracking and improving safety performance across projects.
