The Rod Pump Mechanic position is responsible for maintenance, troubleshooting and repair of all pumping units and associated equipment for all Murphy’s US Onshore production facilities. The Rod Pump Mechanic will ensure all activities are completed safely, meet regulatory requirements, and follow cost effective approved procedures.
This Rod Pump Mechanic will actively participate in the execution of work in a safe manner to help reduce unplanned downtime events, reduce operating costs through a planned preventative maintenance program. In order to succeed, the position holder will possess strong interpersonal communication skills, ability to interface and influence other teams in the Houston office and field.
Perform work in compliance with the company’s safe work practice and procedure
Wear protective personal equipment appropriate to the environment and company policies
Install, troubleshoot, and align a variety of surface equipment, prime movers, gearboxes, power transmission, hydraulics
Inspection and examination of equipment to detect malfunctions and damaged parts
Operation of overhead cranes, fork trucks, scissors lift and snorkel lift
Work with minimum supervision using written or verbal work orders
Perform housekeeping to maintain clean, neat and safe workspace
Participate in continuous improvement and identify areas to enhance process and efficiency
Utilize SAP throughout planning and execution of a job
Close out work in SAP by providing accurate work description and data
Maintain a valid critical spares list in inventory to minimize down time risk
Help plan short term and long-term preventative maintenance schedule
Respond to unplanned downtime events and emergency situations
Follow process and procedure around work order generation, tracking of progress and final closeout of job
Interact with other teams including Health, Safety and Environment, Operations, Engineering, Accounting support & special projects
Valid driver’s license with no restrictions that would prohibit driving a company vehicle is required
High School Diploma or GED from an accredited institution is required.
Minimum 2 years of Oilfield maintenance experience or other relevant industry experience
Education or direct experience oilfield surface equipment, prime movers, belts, pulley, engines, and motors
Assemble, disassemble, repair and maintenance of oilfield pumping units
Team player with good interpersonal, coaching, and mentoring skills
Strong mechanical skills using basic tools including impacts, shovels, hammer wrenches, sledgehammer
Analytical problem solver and decision maker with a focus on delivery of cost-effective solutions
Good oral and written communication skills and proficient with Microsoft Excel, Work and Outlook
Actively communicate with other teams within Murphy to help support continuous improvement
Safe and proper handling of shop power equipment, ordinary hand tools, and power tools
Knowledgeable and proficient in interpreting specifications and drawings
Knowledge of rules and regulations of government regulatory institutions
Experience with Permit to Work, Mechanical Isolation Standards and Risk Assessment
Successful candidate must reside within 70-miles of Jourdanton, TX
Physical requirements typically include standing, stooping, walking, climbing, lifting (up to 50 lbs.) and wearing various personal protective equipment (PPE) in extreme variations of temperature year-round. The successful candidate must be able to complete all essential, physical requirements of the job with or without reasonable accommodation.
