Under the general supervision of the Director of Brand, Advertising & Merchandising, the Category Manager develops, establishes and implements category management and merchandising strategies and tactics, milestones, goals and objectives. This role focuses on assigned category strategies, optimizing product assortment, vendor partnerships, pricing strategies, and in-store execution to drive sales, margin, and customer satisfaction. The ideal candidate brings experience in convenience retail, analytical capabilities, and a collaborative approach to cross-functional execution. In addition, this role encompasses traditional merchandising responsibilities for Company Owned, Company Operated (COCO) Convenience Stores. The Category Manager will maximize category performance through data-driven decision making, vendor collaboration, and day-to-day executional excellence, supporting store-level merchandising initiatives and contributing to the overall growth and profitability of the retail business.

OTHER DUTIES:
1. Champions safety, reliability and incident and injury free operations. Maintains commitment to a high standard of safety, complies with all safety laws and IES safety policies/rules, and reports actual and potential safety violations to appropriate management personnel. Reports any unsafe or hazardous condition and initiates corrective action.
2. Collaborates with other Operations team members, Business Consultants and Business Development staff to ensure business results are delivered on time, within budget and with a high degree of quality. Works effectively with coworkers and others by sharing ideas in a constructive, positive manner, listening to and objectively considering ideas and suggestions from others, keeping commitments, keeping others informed of work progress and issues, addressing problems and issues constructively to find mutually acceptable and practical solutions, and respecting the diversity of the IES workforce in actions, words, and deeds.
3. Drives a high degree of excellence by proactive initiative to update and maintain operating standards, emergency procedures and any other documents as needed.
4. Leads and manages a variety of special assignments in areas as well as other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and Experience
1. Bachelor’s or Associate degree in marketing, business or related field preferred (or equivalent experience).
2. At least five years in category management, with additional experience in merchandising and/or product marketing (preferably within convenience retail or multi-unit environments).
3. Proven success working with vendors and handling retail execution across a multi-location footprint.
4. Hands-on experience with category management tools, planograms, and retail pricing systems (e.g. PDI), preferably in the Convenience Retail vertical.
Skills
1. Working knowledge of retail operations, convenience store dynamics, merchandising, and marketing.
2. Strong analytical mindset with deep understanding of category lifecycles and trends. Ability to strategically build and adjust categories and identify actionable insights based on consumer data analysis, KPIs, and current market trends, including forecasting, to maximize profitability and performance.
3. Skilled at building and managing vendor relationships and assessing vendor data to negotiate volume, seasonal, and other specials.
4. Excellent planning, organizational, project management, and communication skills.
5. Demonstrated ability to work cross-functionally and manage multiple priorities.
6. Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite; knowledge of PDI, Nielsen, IRI or similar tools a plus.
