We’re looking for a proactive and detail-focused Energy Analyst to support our building decarbonization efforts. This role is designed for someone who thrives in a dynamic environment and is comfortable balancing fieldwork with administrative and program support responsibilities.
The Residential Energy Analyst will be responsible for completing in-home residential energy analyses for end-users who meet low-income requirements and will accomplish verification visits to confirm high efficiency equipment upgrade projects (i.e. HVAC, water heaters, insulation) have been executed. This role will also be subject to processing cost share applications with meticulous and precise accuracy. The role will involve using MS Office with a focus on MS Excel and other computer software tools. The Energy Analyst will communicate with end-use customers, contractors and others via phone and/or email to build relationships. This is a full-time position where fieldwork and office work are expected.
The ideal candidate will bring a thoughtful approach to problem-solving, communicate well across teams and with external parties, and bring strong follow-through to every part of the job—from site visits to compiling customer report to timely processing of invoices/quotes through program requirements.
Duties and Responsibilities
•Conduct assessment and verification site visits for end-use customers at their locations and enter attics, basements and crawl spaces as needed to collect detailed and accurate data and to verify project validation
•Work as an individual and as part of a team to conduct full home energy assessments in single-family rentals, duplexes, triplexes and quadplexes
•Ability to show initiative with coordinating and scheduling visits to end-use customer locations and managing time to complete visits according to schedule
•Communicate with homeowners and tenants to answer questions regarding energy efficiency and recommend high efficiency upgrades
•Perform blower door and combustion safety tests and inspect insulation levels in walls and attics, including infrared camera assessment
•Prepare customer reports summarizing opportunities found during visit to promote and encourage the adoption of energy savings measures
•Review HVAC/plumbing/insulation quotes to meet program requirements
•Provide consistent customer and contractor contact and communication to ensure excellent ongoing customer service and satisfaction
•Provide regular project status and reporting to program lead
•Complete assigned tasks/responsibilities during office time
•Travel by car to customer sites, generally within 150 miles of the Chanhassen office (occasionally farther)
•Preform other activities related to energy conservation, reporting, and project support as needed
•Comply with all company policies and procedures, and attend all required training courses
Required Qualifications
•High School Diploma or GED (General Educational Development)
•Must be able to complete proficiency test for discipline with a score of 70% or better
•2+ years of applicable work experience in building science, energy assessments, energy efficiency, reporting, or other related experience will be considered
•Located in Minnesota, preferred to be located in the Twin Cities area
•Proficiency in MS Word®, MS Excel®, MS PowerPoint®, MS Outlook®, and Windows® operating systems and ability to learn to use other software
•Basic understanding of residential mechanical equipment (HVAC, water heaters, insulation, etc.)
•Strong organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail and the ability to effectively manage multiple projects and deadlines
•A self-motivated, adaptive learner and team player who works well independently and enjoys helping others excel
•Proven ability to maintain consistent communication with customers and contractors to ensure high levels of customer service and satisfaction
•Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the proven ability to convey complex information clearly, professionally, and persuasively to diverse audiences in both virtual and face-to-face settings
•Able to work in all weather conditions, lift items up to 20 pounds, climb stairs/ladders, walk, carry, push, pull, kneel, and squat
•As this position requires driving, the candidate must have an active, valid, appropriate driver’s license and regular access to a personal vehicle
Preferred Qualifications
•Associate's Degree or Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Science/Studies, Energy Management, Sustainability, Business, or related field is preferred
•2+ years of experience in building science, residential energy efficiency, residential building construction, or other relevant industries
•Advanced knowledge of residential energy efficiency technologies
•Building Performance Institute (BPI) Building Analyst certification and competency using blower door equipment
•Experience with infrared thermal imaging camera assessments
Working Conditions
The work is conducted in residential homes across the state of Minnesota and in a climate-controlled office. Customer sitework that will occur regularly will be in low-income single family to quad-plex buildings. This position will require travel by car, approximately 25% to 75% of the time, with potential for overnight trips to greater Minnesota. Mileage is reimbursed at the current federal mileage rate.
