The Galveston Bay refinery has an opening for a Fire Protection Specialist.
- Ensures that all fire suppression systems and fixed fire protection equipment within the Galveston Bay Refinery meets applicable standards such as NFPA, API, and OSHA.
- Works closely with PSM teams, Engineering, Projects and Insurance Risk to ensure that fire protection strategies align with corporate risk tolerance and regulatory expectations. Participates in risk assessments and ensures fire protection considerations are integrated into process safety reviews.
- Develops/Maintains the Galveston Bay Refinery’s inspection, testing, and repair programs for fire protection equipment and systems. Ensures documentation is complete and audit-ready, and that deficiencies are tracked to closure.
- Provides technical expertise for the design, upgrade, and evaluation of fire protection systems, including firewater systems, fixed tank protection, and water spray systems
- Conducts site assessments and reviews incident data to identify deficiencies in emergency response capabilities, equipment coverage, and personnel training. Develops both short- and long-term mitigation plans to address these gaps.
- Provides technical expertise during incident investigations involving fires, explosions, or loss of containment. Develops root cause analyses and translates findings into actionable improvements across the enterprise. Facilitates the sharing of lessons learned to prevent recurrence at other sites.
- Interacts with external regulatory agencies and auditors as necessary.
- Ensures that fire protection systems are not only technically sound but also cost-effective. Balances safety requirements with capital and operational budget constraints.
- Successful candidate may participate on refinery emergency response team but not required.
- Bachelor's Degree in Fire Protection Engineering or Fire Protection & Safety Engineering Technology is required. (Education must be obtained/completed prior to start date)
- 4 years experience in fire and/or safety within industry. Oil and Gas industry experience preferred.
- A valid driver's license is required.
