GFT is seeking a Rail Engineer 1to join our Transportation Team in Atlanta, GA! This role follows a hybrid work model, requiring regular attendance at our Atlanta, GA office.

Responsibilities:
What you'll be challenged to do:
Our Transit and Rail Market Sector is currently designing a number of exciting projects in both the transit and freight sectors throughout the nation. Under close supervision, this position provides design assistance for a wide variety of assignments on transit and rail projects. This person will work closely with the market leaders, PMs, and more senior engineers; however the ability to work independently is highly desired. This role performs routine assignments which are clearly defined and allow for the development of basic skills and application of prescribed techniques and procedures. We are looking for a proactive person with the ability to think on their own, demonstrate initiative to trouble shoot, ask design questions, and ultimately bring solutions to the table.
In this capacity, the successful candidate will be responsible for the following:
•Prepares basic plans and details in support of broader engineering activities involving the design of roadways, drainage and site development.
•Gathers and records information to be used for cost estimating.
•Prepare and/or review design calculations.
•Research different design options, code requirements and present findings.
•Prepare and/or review reports, design/contract drawings and specifications.
•Assists in preparation of studies and routine technical reports or sections of reports.
•Utilizes CADD in Plan Preparation which may include 3D modeling.
•Communicate frequently with Project Manager, Supervisor, and project team members to provide updates on workload and project progress.
•Responsible for accuracy of engineering design and plans, quality presentation, thoroughness and follow-through, and conformance to budgets, schedules, and company standards under the direction of task and project leaders.
•Performs routine technical work which does not require previous experience related to the development and checking of roadway plans and calculations.
•Works as part of a project team within the roadway discipline.

Qualifications:
What you bring to our firm:
•Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering, Civil Engineering Technology, or similar.
•Fundamentals of Engineering exam.
•Entry-level position, 0+ years experience.
•Experience with CADD preferred.
•Working knowledge of design software.
•Proficiency with MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook).
•Possesses basic oral and written communication skills.
•Analytical – Applies knowledge of engineering principals and practices in area of assignments and related fields; Requires the use of advanced techniques and practices of the engineering field and related sciences and disciplines.
•Problem Solving – Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Uses computer to solve engineering problems and improve the project team’s design process. Identifies and resolves problems in a timely manner; Gathers and analyzes information skillfully; Works well in group problem solving situations.
