POSITION OVERVIEW: The Quality Specialist is a hands-on role focused on resolving internal quality issues on the shop floor, supporting production teams, and ensuring corrective actions are implemented effectively. The position emphasizes problem-solving and follow-up. The position is responsible for preparation and review of PPAP documentation. This role offers the opportunity to make a direct impact on product quality and continuous improvement while working closely with production and engineering teams.
- Lead containment and corrective action activities for shop floor quality issues to ensure the product meets customer requirements.
- Conduct investigations using structured problem-solving methods (e.g., 5-Why, Fishbone).
- Partner with Production and Engineering to prevent recurrence of internal defects.
- Perform dimensional inspections and verification of product conformance using appropriate tools.
- Document quality issues, track follow-up actions, and ensure closure in a timely manner.
- Preparation of customer PPAP packages and related documentation.
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives targeting scrap reduction and defect prevention.
- Train operators and quality staff in inspection practices and customer requirements.
- Communicate quality status and trends effectively to management and cross-functional teams.
- Collaborate with other team leaders to ensure resources and information are shared and used effectively to meet department needs and quality standards.
- Participate in team leadership meetings and trainings.
- Ensure all department actions are consistent with the QMS (Quality Management System).
- Associate degree in a technical field or equivalent combination of education and relevant work experience in manufacturing quality.
- 3+ years of experience in manufacturing quality- Strong knowledge of GD&T, blueprint reading, and measurement techniques.
- Experience with quality tools such as 8D, Fishbone, 5-Why, or equivalent root cause methodologies.
- Working knowledge of PPAP, APQP, control plans, and inspection records.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office; SAP or similar ERP experience a plus.
- Hands-on experience with inspection equipment (CMM, calipers, micrometers, gauges).
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple projects under tight deadlines.
- Strong problem-solving mindset with initiative to drive issues to closure.
- Requires standing, walking, pushing, pulling, reaching, bending, and occasional lifting up to 25 lbs.
- Exposure to normal factory conditions (noise, heat, dust; PPE required).
- Personal Protective Equipment includes safety glasses, steel-toed boots, and ear plugs in required areas.
