Job Summary
The Project Engineering Manager serves as Mesa’s technical authority for distributed power projects, ensuring generator system designs are accurate, compliant, and reliable. This role oversees engineering deliverables across mechanical, electrical, and applications disciplines, while mentoring engineers and standardizing best practices. The PEM ensures Mesa’s power systems integrate seamlessly with customer requirements, maintaining technical excellence from concept through commissioning.
The PEM manages engineering deliverables, supports commissioning, and guides a team of Project Engineers. A successful candidate has a strong engineering foundation, experience with DER and power system integration, and a systems-level understanding of Mesa’s products. The PEM works closely with internal teams, customers, and subcontractors to deliver reliable, complete power solutions across both sales and rental channels.
Essential Duties
- Lead engineering efforts for customer projects requiring complex system integration, including Mesa-led turnkey/EPC deployments and customer-led projects requiring Mesa equipment integration.
- Provide technical input and authority during project development, execution, and commissioning
- Mentor Mechanical, Electrical, and Applications Engineers to ensure consistent quality and professional development.
- Provide general product support for the sales and service channels
- Prepare, review, and approve project documentation: one-line diagrams, site layouts, interconnection drawings, etc.
- Support field commissioning, site readiness, and system startup
- Coordinate resources for project-specific engineering timelines and deliverables
- Maintain accurate records of engineering changes, as-builts, and submittals
- Maintain engineering processes, design libraries, and standards to drive efficiency and repeatability.
- Support lessons-learned programs and implement design improvements into future projects.

- 4 Year / Bachelors Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or related Engineering field from an accredited university.
- Graduate Degree in Engineering or technical management from an accredited university.
Required
- 5 years in project engineering or technical roles involving power systems or DERs.
- 5 years of experience delivering projects with utility interconnection, switchgear, or generator integration.
- 5 years of experience coordinating technical work across multiple stakeholders.
- Background in microgrids, backup power, demand response, or grid-connected DERs.
- Experience with commissioning, testing, and site installation support.
- Honorably discharged service veterans are preferred.
- Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license and a driving record satisfactory to the company and its insurers.
- Project Management Professional (PMP)
- Familiarity with EPC or contractor-side project delivery models
- Strong leadership and mentoring ability within engineering teams.
- Working knowledge of power generation systems, switchgear, controls, and site integration
- Understanding of interconnection standards and utility coordination (e.g., IEEE 1547, UL 1741, NFPA 70/110 etc.)
- Ability to interpret and review technical drawings and electrical schematics
- Strong organizational and communication skills
- Ability to lead and support cross-functional teams
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and engineering tools (CAD, modeling software, etc.)
- Able to manage multiple active projects and competing priorities
- Comfortable working in fast-paced and field-oriented environments
