Mesa Associates, Inc. is seeking a motivated Project Engineer to join our team in delivering a wide range of projects for our growing generation clients in the south region. Experience with design, engineering, procurement, and construction processes in multi-discipline projects is required.
Desired experience includes low voltage and medium voltage power distribution, motor controls for both low voltage and medium voltage, interfacing industrial processes to DCS and/or PLC systems and the use of power distribution system modeling software (ETAP or SKM). Individual must have the ability to interpret, single lines, AC/DC elementaries, panel front views, wiring diagrams, equipment drawings, and bills of materials.
Candidate must be a leader, capable of coordinating engineering and design efforts, working within a team, and comfortable being in front of peers and clients leading/conducting meetings. Job duties will require coordinating with project managers, and client to develop proposal documents and estimates to facilitate bidding on work. Work will mostly center around modifications and upgrades in existing facilities. Experience in relay protection would be a plus.
- Works under the direction of a Project Manager or Director.
- Initiate projects: Complete project initiation documents, which include detailed work scope/outline, budget, and schedule for completion.
- Project Definition: Assist Project Team in defining/clarifying project scope and level of detail required satisfying customer expectations and projecting requirements. Maintain Project Status – Keep the project status reporting system (database) current with the actions and changes that take place on assigned projects so the overall organization is able to respond to client requests.
- Manage Project Implementation – Leads assigned project team, ensuring that project goals/objectives are achieved and all business processes and applicable procedures are followed. Plan, schedule, conduct, and coordinate detailed phases of engineering/design work for projects.
- Control costs – Assist Project Manager in controlling project expenditures and schedule performance as necessary to satisfy project requirements and ensure satisfactory budget performance on all projects.
- Maximize Project Profitability – Through appropriate project budgeting/pricing, utilization of resources and cost controls, maximize the profit margin on individual projects.
- Communicates effectively with project team and clients as required to facilitate coordination of design or construction activities and flow of technical information. This includes tracking/resolving action items, information requests and assisting the design team in the resolution of technical issues as required.
- Coordinate/Communicate with Peers – Work with project team to identify, document and resolve changes that may impact schedule and budget performance of project.
- Ensures projects are closed-out and archived in a timely manner in accordance with applicable procedures.
- Possess in depth working knowledge of electrical systems and innerworkings.
- Perform walkdowns and collects detailed field information related to site configuration, existing equipment data, and scoping efforts.
- Ability to perform broad range of supervisory responsibilities over others.
- Possess strong verbal and written communications skills. Ability to coordinate with and interface with clients, vendors, engineers, colleagues, and other electric utilities personnel.
- Possesses strong interpersonal skills to build relationships and work effectively with clients, peers, and affiliates.
- Strong skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, scheduling software and possess working knowledge of corporate accounting practices and business operations.
- Additional software skills including Bluebeam, AutoCAD, Vault, ReCap, and other 3D rendering programs preferred.
- Possess willingness to develop, promote and comply with Mesa safety requirements.
- Strong knowledge of electrical design codes (NEC).
- Experience with electrical load studies.
- Applies knowledge and experience to complex projects, finding non-standard design solutions.
- Strong attention to detail, facilitation, team building, collaboration, organization and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to perform quality reviews for detailed engineering documents and specifications.
- BS in Electrical Engineering from an ABET accredited college/university.
- Registration as a Professional Engineer (P.E.) is highly desirable.
- Minimum of 8 years of relevant project experience with at least five years experience functioning as a design engineer on any a variety of projects.
- Working knowledge of applicable industry codes and standards.
- Normal office environment with occasional field trips to remote or rural areas requiring the physical ability to walk over rough terrain and requiring overnight stays.
