The Project Director will lead project workstreams for development of a Detailed Feasibility Study and Capital Project development and execution with a focus on safety, environmental protection, cost, schedule, and business readiness to deliver a world-class mining operation. The successful candidate will operate with skill and agility across technical, leadership, and project responsibilities. The position entails comprehensive project management responsibilities, stakeholder engagement, team leadership, and a commitment to innovation and continuous improvement within the project scope. The position also includes travel to other locations, including the Yukon-Kuskokwim region of Alaska and the project site, located approximately 280 miles (450km) Northwest of Anchorage.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead a cross-functional team of project practitioners to define project scope, goals, and deliverables that support business and technology objectives in collaboration with stakeholders: including evaluating project requests, setting priorities, and ensuring stakeholder approval.
- Ensure the work is executed in a professional manner consistent with the corporate goals and policies of Donlin.
- Track and communicate project status, risks, and key milestones to internal project stakeholders, and adjust project plans, budget requests, and/or resources as required to meet project requirements.
- Responsible for all mine and infrastructure project deliverables, either developed internally or by approved third-party service providers, ensuring adequate front-end engineering and scope development, along with overseeing the detailed design, procurement, and construction efforts to meet project requirements.
- Ensure the accuracy of mine design information – according to corporate specifications and standards - whether done by internal personnel or by outside contractors prior to being issued for design/construction.
- Lead the development of the design basis for all mine project technical disciplines. Review technical feasibility of proposed solutions to engineering problems.
- Ensure constructability reviews are used in project phases to validate the completeness and operability of designs.
- Lead the construction organization to ensure adequate construction planning and safe work during the execution phase of the project.
- Ensure teams (internal and external) review and revise engineering specifications and standards as required by supervision or as needed to ensure compliance with industry and regulatory requirements.
- Mentor, teammate, and advocate - building a high-performing organization, creating measurable value for the organization, and inspiring innovation.
- Manage stakeholders to ensure alignment with team objectives throughout the course of the planning phase, building relationships at all levels of the organization.
- Lead the development of a “large” multi-billion-dollar project.
- Ensure compliance to all legal, regulatory, and contractual responsibilities.
- Minimum B.S. or Engineering degree in Mining or a related resources field.
- 20+ years of global mining, technical, and project experience in a hard rock mining environment.- Operations experience is a plus.
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.

- Proficient in relevant software application and project management tools, and familiarity with financial modeling, risk and contingency management.
- Experience in cold climate environment.
- Experience with greenfield projects that were Fly-In/Fly-Out based and had significant seasonal constraints on logistical access to the site.
- Professional Registration, P.E. or P.Eng. Preferred
- Project Management Professional (PMP) training or certification preferred.
