We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Director of Project Development
to lead our project development team. This role will be pivotal in shaping and executing our Canadian renewable energy pipeline, driving growth, and ensuring successful project delivery. You will provide commercial leadership, coordinate cross-functional teams, and manage key stakeholder relationships to ensure projects progress efficiently from early development through to investment decision.
- Lead the development and execution of utility-scale BESS and wind energy projects
to drive the growth of the Canadian generation portfolio.
- Provide commercial and strategic leadership
by shaping investment strategies and project theses to guide the expansion of the Canadian business.
- Oversee all aspects of early-stage project development
, ensuring coordination across internal teams and external experts to meet tight timelines and deliverables.
- Lead negotiations with key stakeholders
—including First Nations, community groups, and landowners—to build strong partnerships aligned with procurement and development goals.
- Manage project development budgets
, ensuring resources are appropriately allocated while maintaining cost control within approved limits.
- Collaborate across departments and leverage shared resources
to identify and proactively pursue high-value opportunities.
- Build and maintain industry relationships
with developers, investment firms, suppliers, and consultants to drive business development.
- Source off-market opportunities
by fostering connections with small to mid-sized developers not engaged in formal sale processes.
- Track and interpret regulatory developments and incentives
in both Canada and the U.S., positioning projects for success in upcoming RFPs.
- Support financial modeling and economic analysis
by overseeing data inputs and understanding the key value drivers of each transaction.
- Prepare and present executive-level
materials for approvals and shareholder reporting.
- Mentor team members
to grow their expertise in wind and energy storage project development and execution.
- Bachelor’s degree
in Engineering, Business, Environmental Studies, or a related field; Master’s degree or MBA is a strong asset.
- 7–10+ years of direct experiencein renewable energy project development, with hands-on involvement in utility-scale solar, wind, and/or BESS projects.
- Proven leadership experience
managing project development teams and coordinating cross-functional workstreams.
- In-depth understanding of the
project development lifecycle
and the ability to translate technical inputs into commercial decisions.
- Experience
evaluating complex projects and financial transactions
, including discounted cash flow modeling.
- Strong commercial acumen with
demonstrated ability to solve business challenges
and drive project value.
- Excellent relationship-building skills with a
proven ability to negotiate and collaborate
with diverse stakeholders incl,uding Indigenous communities and regulatory agencies.
- Deep knowledge of the Canadian renewable energy market
, regulatory frameworks, and procurement processes.
- Ability to
work effectively under pressure
, manage competing priorities, and meet strict deadlines.
- Strong communication and presentation skills
with experience preparing executive-level materials.
- Entrepreneurial mindset
with a proactive approach and a willingness to take ownership.
- Demonstrated
leadership and mentoring experience
, supporting the development of junior team members.
- Familiarity with U.S. renewable energy markets and cross-border projects.
- Experience with Indigenous consultation frameworks in Canada.
- Background in greenfield development, land origination, and permitting.
- Experience with M&A or joint development agreements in renewables.
- Proficiency with tools like GIS, AutoCAD, or PVSyst.
- Knowledge of environmental permitting processes in Canadian provinces.
- Bilingualism (English/French) is an asset.
- Previous experience in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment, especially in a smaller or scaling organization.
