As a Melt Supervisor, you will play a key leadership role in our gray and ductile iron foundry. Reporting to the Plant Manager, you’ll oversee the Melt Department — ensuring safe, efficient, and high-quality operations. This includes supervising staff, scheduling work, driving safety and OSHA compliance, and maintaining a clean and productive work environment.
- Lead and support Melt Department employees (Chargers, Laborers, Melters, Pourers, Industrial Truck and Crane Operators).
- Oversee daily melt operations to ensure consistent, high-quality product flow.
- Train, coach, and review employees to maintain strong performance and teamwork.
- Monitor equipment, safety procedures, and housekeeping to maintain a safe workplace.
- Schedule heats and coordinate with other departments to meet production goals.
- Track raw materials, place supply orders, and conduct monthly inventories.
- Document production, attendance, inventory, and scrap usage accurately.
- Enforce company policies and safety regulations, including investigating accidents and ensuring corrective actions.
- Communicate with other supervisors and teams to ensure smooth shift transitions.
- Take part in quality improvement efforts and employee involvement meetings.
- High school diploma or equivalent (preferred).
- At least 5 years of supervisory experience in a manufacturing setting (foundry experience a strong plus).
- Strong communication and people skills — able to coach, motivate, and build teamwork.
- Organized and able to handle multiple priorities effectively.
- Working knowledge of safety standards, OSHA compliance, and production processes.
- Solid math and computer skills.
- Spanish language skills are a plus.
- Work Environment & Physical Requirements
- Foundry setting with exposure to heat, fumes, noise, and moving equipment.
- Regular standing and walking, with occasional climbing, stooping, and balancing.
- Ability to lift up to 25 lbs regularly and up to 50 lbs occasionally.
- Must be comfortable working around heavy machinery and in loud environments.
