We are a dynamic, high-mix, low-volume sheet metal fabrication company seeking a hands-on and proactive Production Supervisor to oversee day-to-day operations on the shop floor. The ideal candidate is a strong leader with a focus on safety, quality, and efficiency who thrives in a fast-paced job shop environment. This role is responsible for supervising production activities, mentoring team leads and operators, ensuring workflow meets schedule requirements, and driving continuous improvement initiatives.
- Coordinate daily production activities within assigned areas to meet schedule, quality, and delivery targets.
- Lead, mentor, and develop team leaders and team members to foster a culture of accountability, safety, and continuous improvement.
- Ensure that all personnel have the proper tools, equipment, materials, and documentation needed to perform their tasks efficiently and accurately.
- Oversee training of team members in all job-related competencies including equipment operation, safety protocols, quality standards, blueprint reading, data collection, and company procedures.
- Monitor team morale and performance, providing coaching, support, and disciplinary action as needed.
- Conduct regular performance check-ins with new hires (e.g., biweekly reviews) and support development of long-term career plans in partnership with HR and senior leadership.
- Develop and maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for processes within the work cell or department.
- Identify and eliminate non-value-added activities; lead efforts to streamline workflows and reduce part cycle times without compromising quality or function.
- Collaborate with other departments and work cells to ensure synchronized flow of parts and materials to meet customer demand.
- Communicate regularly with the Production Manager/Engineering Manager regarding issues that may affect production schedules, quality, or team performance; assist in developing and implementing corrective actions.
- Resolve personnel conflicts, address attendance or behavioral issues, and maintain a fair, respectful work environment.
- Enforce all safety policies and procedures to ensure a clean and hazard-free workplace.- 3+ years of experience in a supervisory or lead role within a manufacturing or job shop environment (preferably sheet metal or fabrication)
- Strong understanding of production scheduling, process flow, and lean manufacturing principles
- Proven leadership and people development skills
- Experience reading technical drawings and blueprints
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced, high-mix/low-volume production environment
- Knowledge of safety regulations and commitment to creating a safe working environment
- Excellent communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills
- Experience in a job shop or custom manufacturing setting
- Familiarity with ERP/MRP systems and digital work orders
- Continuous Improvement / Lean / Six Sigma training or certifications
