The Category Specialist plays a pivotal role in holistically optimizing supply chain strategies. This position involves conducting market analysis, developing category strategies on spend, and managing supplier relationships to drive cost efficiencies while maintaining operational performance. By leveraging data-driven insights, ensuring alignment with project goals, and sustainability initiatives, the specialist fosters collaboration across functional teams.
Conduct in-depth analysis of market trends, competitor activities, and emerging technologies relevant to the assigned categories, such as construction materials, equipment, or services.
Utilize analytical tools to forecast future market conditions and their potential impact on procurement strategies.
Collaborate with stakeholders to define short-term and long-term objectives for each category, considering factors like cost, quality, and delivery timelines.
Develop action-able plans that include supplier selection criteria, sourcing timelines, and performance metrics. Supplier setup as needed.
Assess potential suppliers through comprehensive evaluations, including site visits, financial stability assessments, and performance reviews.
Assist in negotiations with suppliers to secure favorable terms, pricing, and service levels, ensuring alignment with business objectives.
Analyze the total cost of ownership (TCO) for products and services within each category, identifying areas for potential savings. Compare costs against industry benchmarks to ensure competitive pricing and identify opportunities for negotiation.
Ensure that all procurement data, including supplier contracts, pricing agreements, and market research, is accurately documented and easily accessible.
Leverage technology and analytical tools to create dashboards that visualize category performance metrics for stakeholders.
Develop key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure category success, such as savings realized, supplier performance ratings and scorecard, and procurement cycle times.
Work with project managers, engineers, and other business stakeholders to ensure that the category strategies meet operational needs and project requirements.
Establish a feedback mechanism to continuously gather insights from internal teams regarding supplier performance and category effectiveness.
Regularly evaluate category management processes and identify areas for improvement to enhance efficiency and reduce costs.
Identify potential risks related to supplier reliability, market volatility, and geopolitical factors, assessing their impact on the supply chain.
Develop contingency plans to address identified risks, ensuring supply chain resilience.
Provide training sessions and workshops for colleagues on category management principles, tools, and technologies.

This role requires the ability to sit for extended periods while working on a computer. Ability to occasionally lift and carry up to 20 pounds.
