Marathon Petroleum Company LP has an opening for a Process Safety Manager at its refinery located in Salt Lake City, Utah. This position is located in the Environmental, Safety & Security (ES&S) organization and reports to the ES&S Director. *This position does include relocation.
OVERVIEW
This position will lead the SLC Process Safety Management Group. The primary responsibility of this position will be to supervise direct reports and champion the continuous improvement efforts for all PSM elements. This role will also be responsible for ensuring compliance with OSHA PSM and EPA RMP regulations, along with Marathon Refining and SLC PSM Standard Practices, while supporting the business needs of the Salt Lake City Refinery.
- Provide guidance and leadership in the development, implementation, and execution of OSHA Process Safety Management/EPA Risk Management Plan programs and general duty requirements with the goal of ensuring compliance, reducing, and eliminating hazardous events, and promoting a healthy process safety culture.
- Leads the Training group to oversee regulatory driven training needs and other special training initiatives.
- Oversee the SLC Process Safety Element Teams’ performance to continuously improve in process safety across the organization by empowering the people closest to the work to identify opportunities and solutions.
- Develop and track process safety goals and budget. Track and report key leading and lagging metrics to drive continuous improvement opportunities and drive timely closure of process safety recommendations.
- Own the implementation of certain process safety elements and programs, including Management of Change (MOC), Management of Organizational Change (MOOC), Pre-Startup Safety Review (PSSR), Process Hazard Analysis (PHA), Layers of Protection Analysis (LOPA), facility siting, Incident Investigations, Compliance Audits, and process safety risk calibration.
- Develop and support training of process safety topics such as PSM 101, Management of Change (MOC) and Incident Investigation Methodologies, Human and Organizational Performance (HOP) and Intelex.
- Ensure the appropriate investigation classification and methodology are completed and documented in the incident management system for process safety related incidents. Review release calculations for loss of primary containment (LOPC) incidents. Ensure communication of incident learnings.
- Coordinate audits including PSM/RMP compliance audits, process safety collaborative audits and self-audits. Support regulatory inspections along with other internal /external audits; Insurance survey, DOT audits, Process Safety Site Assessments (PSSAP), Operations Excellence Management System (OEMS) audits.
- Oversee Facility Siting compliance, studies, and updates.
- Collaborate with SLC business partners to improve their abilities to comply with process safety elements by identifying opportunities to educate, promote, or streamline processes.
- Promote and lead the Human and Organizational Performance culture at SLC.
- Serve as the PSM interface to the SLC Refinery by ensuring that all employees have the appropriate level of PSM knowledge to perform their jobs and by providing subject matter expertise to improve performance.
- Lead a team of process safety professionals to fulfill process safety objectives. Provide coaching, mentoring and professional development guidance to process safety personnel on performance excellence and career progression.
- Must have a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited university in a technical field.
- Must have at least and minimum of 5 years of Process Safety, Personal Safety or Operations experience in refinery, petrochemical or other related heavy industry.
- Must have a good understanding of relevant regulations, RAGAGEP or industry standards.
- Must be proficient in Microsoft: Word, Excel and Outlook.
- Must be able to wear appropriate PPE in the refinery, be able to physically perform all tasks in the field and take hair drug test and physical.
- Must be authorized to work in the US on a full-time indefinite basis without the need for employment visa sponsorship now or in the future.
- A valid driver’s license is required.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills, organizational and planning skills, facilitation skills.
- Experience with PowerBI or similar reporting/analytics system.
- 6-10 years’ experience in a refining environment.
- Experience with implementing OSHA process safety standards.
