Marathon Petroleum Company is seeking a Process Control Manager at its refinery located in Carson/Wilmington, CA. This position reports to the Technical Services Director.
This position will lead the Los Angeles Refinery Technical Services Process Control Engineering group. The Process Control Manager develops people and provides leadership through coaching/mentoring, succession planning, performance management, recognition, and employee engagement processes.
- Ensure that the day-to-day process control engineering needs of the Refinery are met. Assign, prioritize, and expedite troubleshooting, process optimization, and process safety activities among Engineers.
- Communicate effectively with the Area Team Managers, Refinery Management, and other stakeholders to reach agreement on priorities and allocate appropriate resources.
- Ensure Tech Services Excellence and develop Engineers by providing technical oversight and identifying training needs and learning opportunities.
- Assist Engineers with sound investment decisions and guide them in the development of capital budget projects and decision support packages.
- Manage the performance of Engineers by assisting them to set challenging goals. Additionally, the Supervisor must provide them with honest, timely feedback, and chart a course for their long-term success.
- Providing technical expertise and assistance to all phases of operations and maintenance, and to local management.
- Supporting and actively leading investigations of equipment and system failures and recommending preventative measures.
- Providing support for all aspects of Process Control including day-to-day support of Operations as well as active involvement in refinery projects.
- Bachelors in Engineering or Computer Science or other related degree is required.
- Must have at least 5 years of combined engineering and production related support experience in the refining industry.
- Must be proficient in Microsoft: Word, Excel and Outlook.
- Must be able to wear appropriate PPE in the refinery (respirator), be able to physically perform all tasks in the field and take hair drug test and physical.
- Must have a valid driver’s license. (MPC determines valid status.)
- Must be able to obtain a TWIC Card.
- Travel Requirement is 5% or less.
- Prior supervisory or management experience in the refining industry is preferred.
- Familiarity with Honeywell DCS systems is preferred.
