TAE Power Solutions (TPS) is the electrification spin-off from TAE Technologies, a leader in nuclear fusion technology. We are seeking a Principal Software Engineer with significant software engineering experience to join our Power Management Platform team. You will be responsible for defining and developing our globally distributed, connected platform of power electronics and control systems. Your software will drive a fully integrated power management system used in everything from electric vehicles to nuclear fusion.

At TAE Power Solutions, we consider a wide range of factors when making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets; experience and job-related knowledge, training; licenses and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements depending on the position offered (non-Sr., Sr., Lead or Manager). The compensation range for this role is $200,000-$225,000
- Define and drive the long-term technical vision and architecture for large-scale, cloud-native systems across multiple teams and product lines.
- Anticipate and solve systemic engineering challenges, ensuring scalability, reliability, and security at the enterprise level.
- Translate high-level business and product objectives into cohesive technical strategies and roadmaps.
- Lead cross-functional technical decision-making, balancing innovation, cost, and long-term maintainability.
- Establish and champion engineering best practices, coding standards, and architectural principles that raise the technical bar across the organization.
- Drive architectural reviews, influencing design choices across multiple engineering teams and business units.
- Evaluate emerging technologies and industry trends, guiding adoption to maintain competitive advantage and accelerate innovation.
- Manage and develop a distributed team of senior and staff-level engineers, fostering an environment of technical excellence, accountability, and innovation.
- Serve as a trusted technical advisor to product management, executive leadership, and other stakeholders, shaping company-wide technical strategy.
- Drive company-wide initiatives in performance, observability, reliability, and cost optimization.
- Foster a culture of technical excellence, continuous learning, and pragmatic innovation.
- Partner with security, infrastructure, and operations teams to ensure compliance, resiliency, and operational efficiency.
- Influence technical communities inside and outside the company through thought leadership, white papers, presentations, and open-source contributions.- 12+ years of progressive software engineering experience, including 5+ years in technical leadership roles at scale.
- Proven ability to set and drive technical vision and strategy across multiple teams and large systems.
- Deep expertise in distributed systems, cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP), and modern architectural patterns (event-driven, microservices, serverless).
- Demonstrated experience designing, deploying, and operating mission-critical cloud-native services at scale.
- Strong background in backend languages (e.g., Python, Go, Rust) with mastery of their ecosystems and performance tradeoffs.
- Advanced understanding of CI/CD pipelines, DevOps/SRE practices, and infrastructure as code.
- Experience guiding ML/AI model deployment, MLOps, and data-intensive architectures in production.
- Exceptional technical communication skills; able to influence at executive, cross-functional, and external forums.
- Demonstrated track record of delivering complex technical programs and influencing product direction.
- BSc, MSc, or PhD in Computer Science, Engineering, or related technical field.
- Operates as a company-wide technical leader, influencing engineering culture and practices beyond a single team.
- Skilled at breaking down ambiguous, complex problems into long-term strategies and actionable execution paths.
- Recognized for thought leadership, with ability to influence executives, peers, and industry stakeholders.
- Strong mentorship and organizational development skills—growing technical leaders, not just individual contributors.
- Deep experience in Agile and scaled software development practices.
