About The Role
Exergy is seeking an experienced process engineer who has a passion for solving real-world challenges and can confidently engage with our clients. As a Principal Process Engineer, this individual will play a key role in providing engineering oversight, mentoring team members, and supporting business development efforts. The ideal candidate will bring a deep understanding of process engineering principles and the ability to apply them effectively across complex projects. This is a full-time employment opportunity, with the option for a contractor-based position if preferred.

Key Responsibilities At Exergy, our work is often challenging yet fulfilling.
We pride ourselves in
thinking outside the box, offering unique problem solving and sound technical expertise, while exhibiting agility in project execution. The Principal Process Engineer will directly converse with clients on their needs, guide and mentor other process engineers and EITs, as well as develop and review process engineering deliverables. This role requires a high level of accountability and includes the following key responsibilities:
- Lead/support novel technology evaluations and road-mapping of development pathways.
- Lead/support asset-specific concept studies, feasibility studies, pre-FEED and FEED scopes.
- Preparation/review of process engineering calculations and deliverables per client requirements.
- Provide process engineering expertise in relation to project activities and scopes including:
- Modeling of client processes in various process simulation tools and spreadsheets.
- Design optimization, heat integration, energy efficiency and debottlenecking studies.
- Process evaluation and technical due diligence of new technologies.
- BFDs, PFDs, P&ID and HAZOP preparation.
- Hydraulics calculations and valve sizing.
- Flare system evaluations and sizing.
- Other rotating and stationary equipment selection and sizing.
- Input into multi-disciplinary project deliverables.
- Input and review of cost estimates.
- Input and review of control narratives.
- Maintain strong client relations and support business development activities including:
- Discovery calls/meeting with new and existing clients about prospective opportunities.
- Proactively identifying opportunities for new projects where Exergy can add unique value.
- Preparation of technical proposals including scope of work definition and estimates.
- Review vendor submissions, designs, drawings, and process calculations with respect to client/project requirements.
- Ensure project design is compliant with project objectives, client and industry specifications, and regulatory standards.
- Authenticate deliverables as per client and technical requirements.
- Provide mentorship and guidance to other team members.
Qualifications

In this role, it is required to be technically proficient, proactive, detail oriented with a positive attitude and effective communication skills. Candidates for this position will possess the qualifications outlined below:
- Minimum Requirements:
- 15+ years of industry experience in process engineering with involvement in design and construction pertaining to the oil and gas industry.- University degree in Chemical Engineering or related fields.
- License to work as Professional Engineer in Alberta in good standing with APEGA.
- Professional Experience:
- Deep working knowledge of process simulation software such as HYSYS, Aspen Plus.
- Desire to streamline and optimize existing EPC practice & methodologies.
- Readiness to think critically about engineering applications and demonstrated experience to do so.
- Ability to understand and navigate complex technical topics/systems and deal with uncertainty and data gaps.
- Ability to look at situations from several points of view and be persuasive/persuaded based on details and facts.
- Ability to debate issues of importance to the client/organization and actively participate in brainstorming and ideation sessions to support progress.
- Attention to detail and strong organizational skills managing multiple deadlines efficiently and effectively.
- Demonstrated commitment to high professional ethical standards and a diverse workplace.
- People & Communication Skills:
- Demonstrated ability to build and maintain positive relationships.
- Desire to work in a collaborative work environment with personal commitment to get the job done.
- Ability to coach and be coachable in an agile and fast-paced work setting.
- Excellent verbal communication including leading meetings with multi-disciplinary stakeholders.
- Excellent written communication including technical report writing.
- Excellent computer skills and proficiency in MS Office applications.
- Added qualifications considered an asset:
- Field and operational experience and facility knowledge.
- R&D background with experience deploying innovations and a focus on asset integration.
- Clean technology expertise (carbon capture, hydrogen, biofuels, nuclear, etc.).
- Higher education such as MSc, or PhD.
