T&M Associates is seeking a skilled and experienced Principal Staff Designer to join our Transportation Department at our Middletown, NJ office. This position offers a hybrid work arrangement, providing flexibility for remote work combined with in-office collaboration.
As a Principal Staff Designer, you will focus on technical design and the development of plans for roadway, highway, and bridge construction projects across New Jersey. You will also provide oversight for junior engineers. You'll work closely with NJDOT, NJ Counties, NJTPA, and other State/Regional clients, collaborating with project managers, the Civil/Highway Department Manager, and clients to coordinate the design aspects of roadway projects.
Key Responsibilities
•Develop and manage design tasks for roadway, highway, and bridge projects.
•Provide technical leadership in horizontal geometry, vertical profiles, grading, cross sections, ADA compliance, and utility relocation coordination.
•Contribute to specification development and construction cost estimating.
•Oversee junior engineers and collaborate on project deliverables.
•Assist in project management activities, including budgeting and client coordination.
Qualifications
•Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering required.
•8+ years of relevant experience, including expertise in roadway design, highway engineering, and bridge construction.
•Experience with design task budgets is a plus.
•Proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D and MicroStation is essential; experience with OpenRoads is a plus.
•Strong command of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
•Detail-oriented with solid knowledge of design principles and the ability to produce accurate design calculations.
•Collaborative team player with excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to build strong relationships with clients and staff.
•Demonstrated flexibility and adaptability in a dynamic work environment.
•Strong organizational and multitasking abilities.
•Excellent analytical, verbal, and written communication skills.
