The Pre-Construction Manager
will oversee estimating and pre-construction activities for C&I solar projects, with a strong emphasis on PV construction estimating. This role requires a proven track record of at least 5 years of progressively responsible experience in solar estimating, technical due diligence, and contractor evaluation. The Pre-Construction Manager will also provide light supervisory oversight of the Estimator, ensuring accuracy and efficiency in the estimating process. The Manager will work closely with cross-functional teams, including project development, engineering, and construction, to ensure accurate estimates, effective contractor selection, and successful project transitions into construction.
• Provide detailed cost estimates, technical due diligence, and support to sales and EPC teams on C&I solar projects.
• Coordinate and manage interconnection application processes and permitting activities.
• Review engineering and construction documents for compliance with interconnection agreements, PPAs, leases, and environmental permits.
• Manage preliminary engineering efforts to support contractor selection and scope definition.
• Evaluate and qualify contractors, including electrical installers, for projects of varying size and complexity across the U.S.
• Prepare, release, and evaluate bid packages, and develop award recommendations.
• Negotiate subcontractor agreements and ensure smooth turnover to the project management team.
• Provide supervisory oversight of the Estimator, including review of cost estimates, mentorship, and process improvement.
• Support continuous improvement of estimating processes, tools, and best practices.
• Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field (preferred).
• Minimum of 5 years progressively responsible experience in PV construction estimating, within the C&I solar sector, required.
• Strong understanding of building permits, interconnection processes, and regulatory requirements.
• Experience with ProCore or similar project management software preferred.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, with advanced Excel skills for preparing and analyzing cost estimates.
• Demonstrated ability to provide oversight and mentorship to more junior staff (e.g., Estimator).
• Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
